The monthly payments on a lease can be a lot lower than financing.
I did a 2 year lease on a $50,000 truck. I pay $2000 down and $365/month at 0%. (Canada).
I can trade it after just 2 years if I don't like it.
I could finance it for $600/month for 7 years but the truck will be worthless at the end of term.
I find the leasing payments are vastly different from dealer to dealer.

Never, ever put money down on a lease.

As for leasing, the only time I see it useful is for older people that don't drive much, and need a reliable vehicle to go to the grocery store.

If you're the type that is always going to have a truck payment, might as well lease if you don't put a ton of miles on it. If you're the type that plans to pay off the truck and keep it for a while then buy. You'll always have the latest and greatest while you lease but your also always "renting" something. Maybe this is an oversimplification but it makes sense to me.

There are many advantages to leasing. Unfortunately those advantages generally lie with the dealer.
Unless you can use the lease as a tax write off; the only thing you will ever own is debt. I really hate being indebted.
