Lane Keep Assist - Part II
A couple weeks ago I started a thread on LKA and expressed my disappointment. I linked a 2016 Tesla video showing my expectations going into the test drive. That video of curvy roads was flat so the sensors had long sight lines to maintain lane centering, still impressive. The 2018 F150 or Silverado couldn't do decent lane centering on a straight road, curves hopeless.
Today I watched a new video published yesterday of the most recent Tesla software. This drive was only at 25 mph but it had many blind hill crests with curves, very impressive. If Ford could do as well as the 2016 video I'd have one on order today. As it is, I'm likely waiting for a Tesla pickup, no telling how many years that'll take?
Easy to see why Tesla is worth more than Ford, they're clearly not a car company, rather a tech company that make cars, albeit slowly. When is the last time you had an over-the-air update on your Ford software?
To those who would say I need to learn how to drive, been driving for over 50-years and always hated driving. Driving to me is boring, tedious, mindless and I just rather be hiking. However, I need to get from A to B and driving is the only option where I live. Taxi, Uber, etc. don't exist, heck I have to drive 3-miles just to get to pavement and only the last 1/2-mile ever sees a grader.
Flame away!!!

Buy the Tesla to tow your boat. It is not Auto Pilot it is to let you know if you are falling asleep and drifting out of you lane. It vibrates the wheel which I hope you are hanging onto. Pay attention to the road and this stuff is not needed.
Please tell the person who died because the Tesla drove him into the bridge buttman how much better the Tesla is

I just wonder if you are having a hard time understanding the word "assist".

I think the OP has failed to grasp the fundamental difference between "Lane Keeping Assist" and "Auto-Pilot". The first is only an aid for the driver--and I use that term loosely--who's concentration lapses while driving, whereas the latter is an actual Level 3 or 4 autonomous self-navigating program that allows hands-free motoring....right up until your car drives you into the side of a semi turning into the roadway from a side street.

Never heard anyone that said driving in the middle of nowhere was boring and tedious. If you love hiking so much why not just hike everywhere don’t even drive it’ll be so much more fun. Even better get a google self driving Prius and don’t worry about Lka.

You keep using the word "assist" I don't think you know what it means.
Also good luck with Auto Pilot on dirt roads. I won't trust my life to Auto Pilot in a motor vehicle, at least not any time soon. The technology is still at least 10 years away from being perfected and at least 25 years away from being widely adopted enough for it to make a difference in lowering accidents.
