Knocking noise from moonroof

Width of slick tape
I've experienced exactly the same knocking noise, and I would like to sharesome of the history and a confirmed long-term solution.
I have a 2015 KR with the dual panel moon roof, ordered in January anddelivered in April 2015. The moon roof was quiet for the first 5,000 miles.
My Dealer confirmed my moon roof was the source of the noise without evenleaving his parking lot, as just the slightest torsional input whilst drivingaround his lot starting the knocking.
Ford Service advised the dealer to make some alignment adjustments, but this did not fix the problem, and they then suggested we wait whilst theydeveloped a solution.
A few weeks later the Dealer then applied the TSB (grease), this wasdone in advance of Ford formally issuing the TSB. It brought sometemporary relief, for about two weeks.
Ford Service then authorized the complete replacement of the moonroof assembly. In consultation with my Dealer I declined this, as tearingmy vehicle apart with all the inherent fit and finish risks was not something Iwas prepared to do.
I believe the root cause of the problem is the relativevertical movement of the rear fixed glass compared to the moveable frontglass, and that's why when you tilt the front glass, the noise disappears asthere is no longer any contact between rear edge of the front and theleading edge of the rear glass. To validate this just open your moonroof front glass (tilt or retract), and then stand on your side step, or if you don't have a step, open the front door and stand on the floor ofthe vehicle. Press down from above on the rear glass ... you will beamazed how easy it is to deflect!
My initial solution was to apply Meguiar's #40, a productdesigned to "rejuvenate" rubber seals. I applied this to the frontglass peripheral rubber seal. It had the effect of lubricating and making therubber more supple. Great, the noise was completely eliminated ... but wait itcame back after four months. Even so, I thought a squirt of the Meguiar'sproduct every four months is something I can live with.
However, I continued tothink about it and looked further at the offending leading edge of the rearglass. The glass has a hard plastic profile on the front edge, and this plastichas a sharp molding "flash line" that contacts the front glass peripheralseal. So part two of the solution is using a sharp blade, shave off theoffending flash line, and then apply along the whole length of the plasticmolding 3M Slick tape (adhesive on one side and a low friction surface on theother). At this time I also reapplied the Meguiar’s product to front glassseal. My moon roof has been quiet for a further six months, and my vehicle has now completed 26,000 miles. So I feelcomfortable in sharing this information with Forum members.

I have a 2017 King Ranch 250. I have been to my dealer 3 times for the knocking of my Moon Roof. Mine also started around 5 to 6 K. When I mentioned there were TSB's regarding this issue the service manager said it only applied to 150's and this wasn't a blanket TSB for all Ford trucks with Moon Roof's. He also said he had a part ordered to fix my issue that was on national back order. I have since contacted ford customer service to help expedite the part and document the issue gets resolved

any idea what part he ordered that's on backorder? My 2015 XLT has 11k miles and at exactly a month ago when truck was a year old for me, I started to get the rattle/creek which is ruining a perfectly quiet truck. I checked with dealer where I bought it via a phone call and they said they have only seen this problem a few times and as far as they are aware the tsb of cleaning and lubing has resolved the issue. I say doubtful. I would love to know what the official fix truly is instead of throwing mud at it and hoping it sticks.

I was worried, because we're going into snow/rain season here, and I wasn't gonna put up with a bunch of noise.

Trying to figure it out!
Hope your sunroof tech is better than the one I had. Mine wouldn't close so it's went in for 4 days while parts came in and he could get the sunroof to 'talk' to the computer. I haven't used it much because of weather so I open it Tuesday and my daughter asks, "where is that thing that is supposed to pop up?"
I look up and the wind difuser is missing. Now I have to make an appointment so the tech can look at it and see what all parts are missing, then they get ordered and take it bs k for replacement when they get here. My dealership is such a joke and this will be the last time I'll use them for anything. Sad part, I knew better when I went in.

Well, after the TSB almost 2 months ago, my roof is back to rattling full time now. Ill try the tape trick this time and see what happens. I really love this truck and this is bugging the crap out of me. Even my wife hates it and she never complains about things like this.

2015 KR Sunroof rattle
I have finally had time to make it to the dealer today and got the TSB performed on my sunroof. The rattle is gone, but I don't think it will last. I have been reading this forum about this rattle for months and it was very helpful in helping me locate the rattle and TSB. Knowing there was a TSB helps me with my very rural Dealership. I will just have to see how long this fix lasts, I am not hopeful that it is a permanent fix.
This rattle has been driving me batty since i bought the truck 11 months ago. Buying a truck with an MSRP of $63k+ and having it rattle from day one is aggravating to say the least. But today, I am happy with it as there is no rattle....

I frickin'g HATE rattles, especially in new vehicles that cost a good penny. When I order my 2018, I think I'm going to forego the panel moon roof. But it sure looks cool.

Well after 8 total days at the dealership TSB 16-0020 was performed. Service Advisor still claims its new and a rare issue. Currently no rattle or knock but its only a few days now. Hoping for the best but really need to find a better dealer for service for any future issues.
Good luck to anyone with this issue!
