I see why you want that active, it's an inexpensive plan. Heck park in the driveway and use it to stream Netflicks. I use my phone as my internet provider because I have an unlimited plan and hit 20 to 25 gigs monthly with heavy use.

I purchased an AT&T ZTE Mobley a while back. $20 for the device, $23 per month unlimited data. It plugs into an OBD port but I am currently using it at home in a Mofi router. AT&T signal at home is kind of weak but I average around 30GBs per month with it. Works for me.

Finding info on how long the wifi is active after the engine is turned off is challenging. Found this in a Ford blurb:
"This fall, select 2018 Ford models will feature a Wi-Fi hotspot from Ford. Ford has built connectivity into the available SYNC® Connect. With a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot by AT&T, your vehicle will offer a connection to up to ten devices, allowing passengers to stream videos, read articles, and search social media sites. The connectivity doesn’t stop when you turn the engine off because when the vehicle is parked, you’ll be able to connect within 50 feet."

Same here, The mobley is similar to what's integrated into the truck (just doesn't plug in the obd port). Some of us pulled the sim card out of the mobley and use it in an AT&T hotspot (velocity, etc).

I'm pretty sure this isn't as simple as jumping a wire. The wifi hotspot is enabled and disabled via the sync menu system. The cellular connection is always active for the fordpass app to work. I'm assuming the hotspot and wifi module are part of the ford sync system. I'm not sure what that architecture looks like internally but I think it's more like... digitally switching components on the same circuit board in and out of high power / low power modes... rather than 'flipping a relay to activate a fog light'. The sync system can use the wifi module to connect to an access point for updates... which i believe it checks for periodically on its own (so it can hopefully find updates via your home wifi while parked in the garage). I think the only way to achieve this would be through a software hack of some kind.
