Default Kansas City Plant Started 2015 Builds Today

Hey all, I realize that some of you have probably read this online in other places already but I live in Kansas City and have a neighbor that's a supervisor on F-150 line at the plant. They've been getting the factory ready since the holidays but started building 2015s today. I wouldn't be surprised if those of you that already have orders in start seeing build dates in the near future!

Kansas City works for me if the truck comes sooner. Figured if the line is running slow, and still training there may be less errors! Plus I think QC may be over the top on the first several thousand to roll out the doors. Just my thoughts.

We build the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and AC) assemblies for every F150 built.

Through 31 DEC 2014, we have shipped a grand total of 382 assemblies to KC (over the course of about 5 months).

This first month of '15, we've only shipped 440 assemblies. We're not slated to reach production volumes for another month to month in a half.

For comparison, we shipped 900-1200 per day to Dearborn last week.

Unlike some larger components, HVACs aren't sequenced. We just ship racks of products (different configurations), and when they need one, they just grab one. Like a bolt from a box of bolts.

My company builds the HVAC units for 13 different Ford programs, including the new F150, the new Mustang (S550 including RH drive for Europe), the current F250 & F350, the C-Car platform (Focus/Escape/MKC/C-Max), the D-Car platform (Taurus/MKS/Flex/Edge), the U22x platform (Expedition/Navigator), and the upcoming P558 (the new F250 & F350 for 2016). If it gets built, our HVAC is in it.

roadPilot, since you seem to be in the know, any idea what the failure point is/was on the batch of 2013s that seemed to have problems with the evaporator leaking and causing a bad smell to come through the vents? Curious because my truck spent a couple days in the shop getting mine replaced. Thanks in advance.

The HVACs for pre-2015 F150s were produced by Ford Motor Company (ACH) @ their Sheldon Road Plant (SRP), not by us. We are a newly formed (2 years) joint venture that purchased all of the (HVAC-related) injection molding equipment and assembly lines from Ford/ACH SRP two years ago, and slowly moved it all from SRP to our facility about ~14 miles away from there. Most of the lines moved during the most recent changeovers for each program. Our first F150 HVACs (under the new name) were/are for the 2015.

That said, quite a few engineers from Ford/ACH Sheldon Road actually came to work for us. I will see if I can find out anything on this for you.

For the record, we're being told that our HVAC assemblies are FAR superior (far fewer issues, far fewer concerns) to anything SRP was building ...
