Glad you posted your numbers while I was responding. Exactly, about yours being the $1,250 and why I encourage those with that particular amount to take advantage of it because of long term gain. This is an important thing to cover for those buying your truck as it's an important element of maximizing your savings.

In your case, I would've suggested not to take the $500 rebate some are being offered on the higher Trims. Look at your refinance rate of 2.49% which is higher than what Dealer would have gotten you. Whereas, at $1,250 you still come out ahead.

Now it's all about numbers that I'm not going to actually get into because I always hated Accounting, but I'll give another example. You can take a $500 Ford Credit rebate if let's say you buy your truck at an agreed $50,000, put down $40,000, and take a $10,000 Ford Credit loan. The next day, you refinance at 2.49% and MAYBE you'll see a NET savings of a few dollars over the loan term. You'd have to do all the numbers to see where there's a payoff using the $500 rebate. Personally any savings using an offer this low just becomes a real hassle and I'd rather spend the time talking the Dealer into a few more hundred dollars down.

The 2nd truck is at the dealership that Banawan recomended. Thanks Banawan!!
No difference as far as the trucks go.

It's a 50/50 whether the Dealer will give you a great deal on the 2016 Build because he's got a lot of interest expense tied up in it now vs the 2017 having only about one month of interest accrued. Usually Floor Plan Allowance and Holdback helps a Dealer cover the interest on vehicles that sit for a while but they won't have that cushion anymore to go low. Then again, some high volume Dealers will cut their losses so the truck does continue to accrue interest while still giving you a great deal.

Just work both the best you can and leave the numbers to the Dealers to worry about.

I just inked a deal last night that I am pretty excited about, using the wealth of knowledge from this thread, particularly from toptobottom. When I can confidently sit there knowing exactly how to break these intentionally confusing numbers down, it is a great feeling.

Here are the details:

$60,000 Total MSRP
-$1,295 Destination
$58,705 Dealer Retail

---------------------------------------------------

$58,705 Dealer Retail
x .072 Dealer Markup Percentage
$4,227 Dealer Markup

$58,705 Dealer Retail
x .03 Holdback Percentage
$1,761 Dealer Holdback (BUT, I did see "Holdback $1800" handwritten on the document the sales manager gave the finance manager)

$4,227 Dealer Markup
$1,761 Dealer Holdback
$5,988 Dealer Break Even Price (10.2%)

----------------------------------------------------

This is what I got:
$60,000 Total MSRP
$52,242 Sales Price
$7,758 Dealer Discount

$7,758/$58,705 = 13.2%

$7,758 Dealer Discount
-$654 Processing Fee (This is absolutely outrageous, egregious, infuriating, and it pains me to even type it)
$7,104 Net Dealer Discount

$7,104/$58,705 = 12.1% Net Dealer Discount

I was after something specific and there were only a couple of handfuls within a 100 mile radius. I had contacted basically all of the dealers within a 50 mile radius and tried to work a deal over the past few weeks. Dealers in the DC area just don't want to deal, and over the years I have been in far more dealerships than vehicles purchased. I refuse to play games, and I only buy when I feel the number is right. This typically requires me to look outside of my local area and sometimes go out of state, then try to get them to deliver it.

In this case, I went in to look at this truck about two weeks ago knowing it was above my price range, but they had mistakenly listed the sticker price as $55k. It did take the second quote before they figured out their mistake, but they were still too high. I wanted a 502a truck, but was looking at 501a trucks because of cost.

I had stayed in contact with the salesman via text over the past two weeks and they were looking to find one for me, and kept saying they would match or beat any price. They stayed far more engaged than any other dealer I've worked with, so I figured I had a chance. Knowing they had some more room in the one they had on their lot I looked at two weeks ago, I went back to work a deal.

I ended up with a 502a truck for less than I had anticipated I was going to get this truck for, best case scenario. I was aiming for a selling price of $52,996 and ended up at $52,242 (before doc fee). I had actually walked out of the dealership at $52,600 because I was so aggravated about the doc fee. I was backing away in my vehicle when the salesman came out and asked me to meet in the middle and come up $200. I refused and thanked him for his hard work, taking a page out of toptobottom's book and stating that I "liked round numbers" (removing $416 got me to $53,000 OTD after rebates). He asked me to wait a second, came back and said the sales manager who had shaken my hand and walked away (which was clearly part of his sales training, I've been through enough to recognize much of it) twice. They were shocked I was walking away over $416, but I am a man of principles. I actually brought my computer into the dealership and ran my own numbers while they waited. I doubt they've seen this behavior before and I probably looked like a crazy person, but that doesn't concern me.

I have to say, the salesman and the sales manager were both stand up guys and worked really hard over the last few weeks to earn my business. I am confident that there were no further discounts to be had in the DC area, or anywhere remotely reasonable enough to be worthwhile. I will be happy to share the contact information if anyone asks, but I would suggest not telling them that you got it from me.

One thing I would like to add is that it took a couple of requests for me to get them to elaborate on what rebates they were including in the $3,500 they kept listing. It turns out that they had looked up my $750 private offer and were adding that to the $2,750. I never did tell them about it, so be aware if you have this offer that they can look it up which would preclude you from sneaking it in at the end, which was my intention.

Only $1,250 + $300 = $1,550 for rebates. Don't do the $500 ford Credit for $500 - not worth it. It looks like you'll do best to go for the 0% plus $1,000 Owner Loyalty.
Thanks, Top! I will follow your suggestion and try to get the private cash offer.
Also, I just want to clarify something you said.
The "Only $1,250 + $300 = $1,550 for rebates" is for cash purchase, right? which can not be combined withe the the 0% plus $1,000 Owner Loyalty offer.
Or the "Only $1,250 + $300 = $1,550 for rebates" is a stand alone offer that can be combined with the 0% or other conditional rebates.

Thanks

Default 2017 xlt

Thanks for responding so quick. I had hoped for a better price on a 2017. Thinking I could get close to that on an 18. That lead foot gray with the special edition grill is sweet. Wish i could get that body color & grill style without the stickers.
Any way here's another option for a 2017 XLT

52345-1295*.03145=1605.52
53550*.928=49694.40
+1295=50989.40
-1605.52=49383.88

They originally offered me 51345 because they said their new msrp was 59k after putting on leveling kit, wheels, toyo tires. The wheels are stock so that's a pricey leveling kit
Went through several more rounds of offers to get this:

New offer 43895.90

I sure would like to get this closer to 40k. what i really want is a lariat so this needs to be an outrageously good deal for me to bite.

Default New to this Wonderful Forum

Hey Guys,

Have studied this Forum for about a week as i prepare to do battle with the dealers on a 2018 King Ranch. This is a great Forum and is really built to maximize your deal.

I live in Houston so i am really curious if there is a particular dealer or salesperson that anyone has in Houston, clearly i can go else where in Texas, but if there is one in Houston that understands what needs to be accomplished that would be great. I saw folks discussing that you could get 12.5 to 13.5% before rebates.

Thanks for any help

I wonder how you guys deal/negotiate with the dealer add-ons. It's basically dealer BS, and I do not want them. At which discount rate in general, you think its acceptable?

I've found it to be tough. They act like they are doing you a favor selling you a truck they've installed add ons. What are they? Around here they do some lifts, wheels, brush guards, etc. and then add some obscene number to the price.

This is an unbelievable thread!

What would you believe my price point should be on this truck (see window sticker) I believe dealer fee is like $229 ,

i could finance through Ford to get that money off and then just refinance through my credit union.
I could get the first responders rebate for the 2018.
And the zip code where the vehicle would be registered is 17754, or do the rebates contingent on where it's purchased?

Thanks a ton!!!!!!
