An extremely light coat of dish soap did the trick. Slipped right on with the minimum of resistance.

Cool, hopefully no more troubles!

ghunt, did you do any troubleshooting with a vacuum pump at the IWEs?

I did not because it's snowing and sloppy outside. If there are still issues after I swap the solenoid I'm just going to take it to the dealership. I need to get the recalls done anyway.

Ya, weather will do that to ya. I've got dry, but no heat.

I had the same issue on my 2017 XL STX. I had it at the dealership 4 times. The 5th time and I did what I saw suggested here and bought a second check valve to put in line with the factory installed one. Not one bit of issue since. $10 on amazon and it was fixed.

Got my truck "fixed" for now. IWEs on both sides and updated valve installed. 4th visit's a charm, hope it's fixed.

Just installed the new check valve assembly (D model). Can't seem to push the connector on the solenoid all the way in, still about a 1/4" gap.

I installed my new (blue) one a few days ago as well, on a cold garage, as a precaution (4,500 miles so far). That sucker gave me a hard tiime too. Was about to get my wife's hair dryer, but twisting while pushing finally got it all the way in. Don't leave it sticking out like that. It'll be fun to remove it. Ha ha. Bought a second valve to have as a spare. Will replace it every 15K miles or so.

Ford - TSB (Technical Service Bulletin)- Multiple issues?

I just bought a 2017 F150 FX4 with 7K miles, just started making this "grinding sound", took it to dealer they could not duplicate sound after having it for 3 days refused to fix it, started researching it on my own, figured out what was making grinding sound from youtube videos and this thread. Took it back to Ford with instructions it was a leaking valve to the actuator leading to 4wheel hub, they said they would not fix unless they could duplicate sound, even though they knew what i was talking about and said a lot of f-150s come in with same problem. Very frustrating. After having it for 2 more days they finally replaced the leaking valve and confirmed the hubs were still in good working order, no need to replace, they told me a TSB had been issued on this problem, just short of a recall. I asked the mechanic if he sees a lot of repeat offenders once the problem is fixed, he said no, but i think he was telling me what i wanted to hear.

Has anyone had this issue fixed by Ford only to have it break down again and need to be replaced, specifically the leaking valves or valve to the vacuum leading to the 4wheel actuator behind the hub? Thanks!

I've had mine in MANY times right after they fixed it. I finally put a second check valve on and have not had any trouble since. I don't know if the vacuum is to great for one valve to hold the pressure or it just gets particles in it to hold it partially open?

I know when I had problems, the checkvalve was stuck in the wide open position. Can't see how dirt/junk could get in there, possible I guess. Seemed more temp related.

Greeeeeaaaaat... Makes me miss my old 05' Tundra that had 190K on it without skipping a beat, had a 97' F-150 before that with 150K and you'd think it was going to fall apart, bought this 2017 F-150 because i liked the new Fords and the 3.5L ecobost and now this BS after 7,000 miles, oh well.
