So where does one get the service manual? I have seen a few different people post pic or pdf files from the manual, should I assume they work for ford?

You can get a PDF of the manual for $70. Be aware that it's not the same as being on line through Ford service, but it's a MUCH better price.

Thank you Lare. That's pretty much what I was looking for. Don't really want to spend $70 on it though. But still may do so.

In my experience, the trim tool is just used to assist in prying, not actually "depressing the clip" or anything like that. I have not tried to take off the register vents, but the top piece above the radio. It has little white plastic clips that can fall off very easy. They can be placed back on, but watch they don't fall down behind the dash!!!
