Default An Interesting Advantage of the Electronic Parking Brake

Some of the electronic doodads that have come out on vehicles in recent years seem really nifty at first, but then you find yourself rarely using them while others become your favorites that you genuinely miss in later car/truck which lacks them. One of the features I really liked and miss on my 2015 Genesis 5.0 sedan was the "auto-hold" which, if the car came to a complete stop and you pushed the brake pedal far enough would tell the computer to engage the brakes and hold the car in place until such time as you pressed the gas pedal. Very nice when sitting at a long red light.

Although it requires an extra step, the F150 will effectively do the same. If I roll up to a familiar intersection where I know that I'm going to be sitting at the red light for a while, after completely stopping but with the truck still in D, I reach down and flip the parking brake lever. Once it engages, I can take my foot off off the brake pedal. The truck will now remain stationary until I press on the gas. I'd not try this if towing, loaded heavy or on a steep incline, but for normal every day driving, it's been holding just fine 100% of the time.

Sounds great until you get rear ended because your brake lights are off and the person behind you thinks you are going to take off, or is on the phone and doesn't see you are stopped until to late. Not hating just pointing out a negative

I wonder what happens when the battery dies and one is on a 45 deg. angle hill with no electric parking brake.
Just because they can doesn't always mean its better or fail safe.
I'll take the old school manual cable operated ebrake any day..

My truck has Hill assist. No need to apply parking brake at a stop.

If you aren't on an incline and the stop is longer than two seconds the Hill Start Assist feature isn't going to do what the OP is explaining.

If the battery is dead you’ll need to replace it before you can get it off your trailer. Been there and done this at 9pm after driving 8 hours. No idea if it set itself or if someone else did, we even tried disconnecting the plug at the brakes.

No different than sitting in a manual car in neutral at a light (assuming to road is flat)
