Installing a center console in a new F150
Hey guys. I'm looking into buying an F150 and an XTL is about all my budget will allow. The problem is I can't find one that I like, within budget that also has a center console. I'm thinking about just buying one with the center seat and swapping it out for the console at a later time. I'd like to get the group's thoughts on that. Is it advisable? Is this something others typically do? Suggestions on sourcing the part? Anything else that would be helpful. thanks!

Yep, plenty of people have done that... look at some of the build threads. You can even convert to a floor shifter if you want. Best bet on sourcing the part is finding someone else removing one. The entire console isn't cheap new.

I’m looking for one now. Most junk yards are charging between 250-1000 for them. All the parts from Tasca cane out to about 1500 last I looked. The swap should only take a few hours and you’ll have to take the drivers seat out.

amazing how rare the 15 up center consoles have become. glad i got mine when i did - there are a few 15 and up consoles on ebay. for 699 or so - they have the shifter in them - could always order the shifter delete plate if you don’t want the shifter -
the nice thing if you buy one with the shifter in, it probably comes with all the wining for the console lights and power ports -
2016 i got a new console for my truck with no shifter - came with all the trim and bolts but no wires. think i paid 600.

Hate the center console in my xlt, wish I had the jump.

I love the bench seat. It was one of my creteria when purchasing the truck. I'm a tall guy and bench seat gives me more side to side leg room. Also it's nice to have the space for the sixth passenger when needed. Since I'm no longer married and now dating there are added benefits.
