weird... I have a tester as well... I'll try that tonight and post what I end up seeing.

What exactly are you going to test ?

If you wired your backup lights relay to the +12 in the trailer connector and they work when you back up, then it is obvious your +12 is always enabled, unlike mine and many others here.

Just wanted to provide an update: wired up the aux reverse light this weekend using the wire of the center pin of the 7-pin trailer connector and the ground wire to run the lights, truck doesn't think there's a trailer connected so all is working well.
