Default IIHS Light results

http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/veh...ab-pickup/2016

Found this while looking up crash ratings, which BTW the 15+ is 5 star rated. I have the LED headlights on mine, and they are the best lights I have ever had, so I found it a bit odd that they are rated as Poor.

Click on headlights on the left and scroll down.

Yes, I saw that before getting my truck. The biggest issue is that the truck they sampled (and they don't adjust the lights, it is tested however it is received) had LED lights that didn't illuminate far enough at the intensity they required. Beyond that, glare was an issue.
The non-LED was worse for distance illumination.

I adjusted my headlights and they are better than how the truck was delivered. My previous vehicle had good factory HID lights, and they were better than my Ford LED low beams. The color temperature Ford picked isn't ideal either, but overall, I'm fairly pleased.

Funny thing is, the MKT is rated Marginal with the HID, but the LED in the F150 actually light the road, and shoulders to the point I can see them in the rain. First time that has ever happened, and I have had several HID equipped vehicles. Not sure what glare is though, is that for oncoming drivers?

I just spent the weekend running off-road all through West Texas and find the LED lights were unbelievable. When moving slow through brush I kicked the mirror lights on and it lights up the entire area.

The LED lights are AWESOME.

I think the factory LED headlights are good and comparable to HIDs.

I had a 2012 F-150 with OEM HIDs, the only difference is that the HID cut-off is sharper or more defined.

Glare is stray light that dazzles oncoming traffic. Low beams with bad glare could simulate someone driving towards you with their high beams....so it's the irritating light from oncoming vehicles that makes it difficult for you to see.

Which trim/level do you have? The 2015+ F-150 is only available with halogen and LED headlights, unless you've replaced them with HIDs?

Apologies, corrected in the post. I am running 2017 Lariat trim with the LED lights. My previous 2013 had HID projector lamps and I think the LED performance far exceeds them.

I love the LEDs... big improvement over the halogens in my 2011. My wife has HIDs on her Escape, and being lower to the ground than my truck, they're fantastic at night.

Imagine how tickled you guys would be if they were good lights!! I'm not knocking them, they are better than the halogens. I have the LEDs on my truck, too. My lights were much better after I adjusted the aim, so that may be a big part of why they did poorly on the IIHS test.
