Default If you have a 2017 3.5 with the 10R80

You're doing yourself a disservice not taking it to the dealership right now and getting the TCM update installed. It is a drastically better shift logic than what the 17 comes with. It's smoother, it doesn't hunt (mostly because it won't upshift to 10th gear too damn soon) and it will downshift on it's own when slowing down and not just stick in a gear far to high and needing significant throttle input to downshift to a gear that can accelerate. It doesn't surge into 3rd on the skip shift.

Throttle in sport mode is changed a bit, along with some of the shift points. It's a little more aggressive mostly.

All in all this is a much much better shift strategy than before.

I agree the software update is a big improvement, especially the 1-3 surge. But after time passed my truck turned back to unresponsive and shifting to 10th at 49 mph. Maybe due to the adaptive shift program. Now it feels unrefined and sluggish downshifting again. I hope your truck keeps performing well.

10th at 49 mph is fine, but what wasn't fine is not downshifting back down to 8th if you slowed down to like 40 mph and it just stayed in 10th.

I've had it on for 5 days at this point, it hasn't learned any bad habits i can tell.

My 10 speed shifts in to 10th at 49 if you are not giving it much throttle, it's totally normal. It should however drop gears quickly when you apply more throttle. I have not had the TSB done, but my transmission is pretty dang smooth.

You THINK it's smooth, get it done. When i say the old software was sluggish i didn't mean it's only unresponsive to input, i mean it physically downshifts slower than the new software.

I've been in both transmission tunes, the old software and the new one, Ford changed over 60% of the shift strategy, some things significantly.

Just had mine done last week, updated the PCM/TCM, yes, it makes a difference, I haven't experienced the surge into 2nd or 3rd since.

Is this something that the dealer does at no charge? Do you just tell them you want the update done?

It's not free if you just ask for the update. If you are annoyed by the shifting tell them as such and you heard there was an update, they should do it for free.
