I found the Chevy bumper step is way more convenient than Ford. Let's you get on the bed with or without the tailgate open from the corners. My last F150 had the man step but I still found the Chevy version better.

I had 2008 1500 Std Cab WT with the 4.8. Did not so much as even change the tires in 45k miles when I sold it. Was a good truck, but my new ride... well

I bought my F150 after 14 years in an Avalanche. I loved the bumper step - used it all the time, and as already stated, you don't need to have the tailgate down to use it.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the build quality of my Avalanche. I had nothing major go wrong the whole time I owned it and it was anything but stock. I have a friend who bought a 2016 Silverado and he loves it. I think that people who deride the GM products are exhibiting their inherent bias. Both vehicles are well built and very comparable; I shopped both products but couldn't find a Silverado/Sierra equipped the way I wanted it and I didn't want to wait on an ordered unit. I ultimately decided on the 3.5 Ecoboost F150 mainly because I tend to keep my trucks a long time and believe gas prices have nowhere to go but up.

I'm getting old so I like how the Ford step hangs lower than the bumper. Name: old.gif

Size: 2.4 KB My truck sits higher than stock so that puts the bumper up even higher. The Chevy 1/2 tons look like they sit a little lower than the Fords so the bumper step would probably be more convenient on them.

If you reference the specs from each manufacturer's website, it does show that the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has less ground clearance than the F150 does.

F150 SuperCrew 4x4 = W79.9"/L231.9"/H77.2"/GC9.4"
RAM 1500 CrewCab 4x4 = W79.4"/L229.0"/H76.9"/GC??"
Silverado 1500 CrewCab 4x4 = W80.0"/L230.3"/H73.97"/GC8.9"
Toyota Tundra CrewMax 4x4 = W79.9"/L228"/H76.0"/GC??"

It's the "GC" number, although the difference isn't massive. Due to their physical layout and aesthetics, I think the GM trucks look like they sit lower than they really do. The hood line / cowl isn't as high up as it is on the other trucks. The Tundra is probably the worst about that. It's hot a high cowl line to make it look larger than it really is.

I get what the OP is talking about though. Sometimes the grass seems greener on the other side. I've enjoyed my F150 after a year of ownership but some things really irritate me. The biggest thing I can't stand is the terrible headlights. I'm also not a fan of the rear end being so damn jumpy over bumps. This doesn't seem problematic with all F150's. I drove a 2015 XLT 3.5L EB 2WD that didn't have that problem. The idea that I need a Hellwig sway bar and potentially new shocks to correct a problem the truck shouldn't have is irritating to say the least. It feels like I'm going to have to spend a **** ton of cash to get new shocks, a sway bar and new headlights just to eliminate my gripes with this truck. That got me thinking about trading up and out of the F150.

As for the bumper steps, I do like them. I think they are more useful than the tailgate step in some applications. I think both are valid approaches but solve different problems. I'm annoyed by the poor seat cooling. The fitment of some interior panels on the dash, like the AC vents to the dash structure line up poorly and that sort of thing. I've wanted a diesel for some time but don't want to pay the 2017 F250 prices and wait for the bugs to get worked out. The RAM isn't on par with Ford and GM in my opinion and it is getting redesigned this next model year making me look hard at the GMC Sierra 2500HD. No, I don't need diesel, I just want diesel.

A friend of mine got a brand new 2016 4WD Tahoe and it's nice, but it has its own fit and finish issues. There is a spot where the headliner fabric wasn't properly trimmed and tucked up under the border where it meets the roof. The stitched center console bits aren't leather, but rather hard plastic. At least all the surfaces in my F150 that have stitching are soft, whether or not the leather is genuine or not. His headlights aren't ****, mine are terrible beyond words.

At the end of the day I think I just get bored with vehicles too easily. When I decided to start modding my F150, I fell in love with it all over again. Since I have stopped modding, my eyes have started wandering again. I think the OP and others have the same problem I do and need to alleviate the vehicle boredom in some other way besides trading in and out of vehicles so frequently.

While the truck has the tech features I missed in the Ford, the build quality from GM is horrible. The truck has 7000 miles on it and has had 5 recalls on it in addition to suspension issues. On top of that I get less than 19 MPG combined and if I am towing it is often a struggle to break 12. I got 20+ daily and 17 ish while towing with my F-150.

I am hoping Ford includes me in a private offer mailing soon so I can dump this Chevy and get back into a F-150. The 17's are supposed to have the smartphone app and Car Play. I can't wait to dump this Chevy.
The size comment surprises me. I currently have a Frontier, which is about the same size as the Colorado, and the thing that impresses me when I get into an F150 is that it doesn't drive any larger than my Frontier. While a Ram and Silverado feels ginormous when I'm driving them, I feel like I immediately know where all 4 corners of the F150 are and it just doesn't feel like it takes up as much space on the road or in parking lots. It's one of the things that impresses me about the F150.

Those square wheel wells bother me as much as the stupid bars in the headlights on the Ford's. Both are ugly as sin, but neither would stop me from buying either truck.

The square wheel wells bother me too but overall I still think the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado are decent looking trucks. I like the RAM's appearance too. I think the Tundra is probably one of the worst looking out of the full sized trucks, but I still like the way it looks for the most part. I don't think any of the full sized trucks aside from the Titan are aesthetically lacking. That Titan / Titan XD though. Jeez that thing is hideous.
