Shouldnt be that big of a deal opening them from my experience. And just an FYI, the chrome on the bowls of the headlamps and the LED “bulb” housing and trim piece can be removed using oven cleaner and if rinsed quickly enough leaves the light looking identical to the SE housings. Only piece that needs painted then is the DRL/LED front trim ring that attaches to the front lens.
Also, how quickly is quickly when it comes to rinsing it off? Is it just a matter of spraying it all over, then immediately washing it off?
I suppose if it goes too far and strips the coating, you're at the same point for scuffing, priming and painting.

The chrome on the DRL/front trim ring can be removed the same way, however it’s not black plastic like the bowls and headlight trim are. It’s a transparent plastic that has to be painted. Best method I found was to spray the oven cleaner on, let it dwell for 30 seconds or so, agitate with a soft cloth until the chrome is removed then rinse thoroughly. I’d recommend not letting the oven cleaner dry because it will stain/etch the glossy plastic on the trim ring.
