Default Humming noise after leveling kit installed

Just installed a RC leveling kit on my 2015 F-150 4x4 3.5 Ecoboost. I did it myself and had to take the axle shaft out of the hub assembly due to me not being able to hammer out the lower strut studs. I didn't want to snap one and be without a truck. Putting it back together went really well. It slid right in with no issues. I measured the stud coming out of the hub and it was good. I DID NOT TORQUE THE AXLE NUT. Now while I'm driving I'm getting a humming noise in 2WD and when 4WD in engaged it goes away. Not until I put it into 4wd and switch back to 2wd does the noise start. Its not like most of the clunking noises I hear in the videos or forums. More of a sound like a wheel bearing is going slightly bad. I can definitely feel it on my feet and gets worse as I increase in speed. The truck is still under warranty but if its a check valve I'd just fix it myself. The vacuum lines seem to be in good shape. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try the vacume line, it may be loose. If not test it..if vacuum is good it's IWE

Sounds like you broke the IWE. Did you pull vacuum when you reattached the axle?

Seems weird it would be the check valve but you can easily test it. Take it out and blow into it both ways. If air passes both ways, its bad. My guess though would be that one of the iwe’s got broken.

Another question.... If I were to install the IWE actuators myself, could I turn the truck on in 2wd so the truck can pull the vacuum while I'm installing it? Would that work?

Theoretically yes you could do that.

Yup, Could do that.

A Vacuum pump can be had at your local parts store pretty cheap. I paid like $25 for mine.

If the dealer decides not to cover it, they are usually around $45 and can be done super easy if it got damaged. You can change it out in like 10 minutes once the wheel is off. Try and get an OEM one so you dont have issues. I have one from the Autoparts store and it sticks once in a while and grinds.

You broke your IWE actuator when sliding the half shaft back through. There is a plastic ring on the actuator that can get snagged by the half shaft if you are not looking for it. The humming you hear is the axle engaged on whichever side is broken(or both). You can get a new one for about $90 at a parts store. Happened to my dad.

dont bother going to the dealer, you will end up fixing it yourself anyway and be out the time you spent in service. Once you replace the actuator you’ll see exactly what happened.
