Default Huge disappointment at the Orange County Auto Show

My wife is getting sick of hearing me talk about the 2015 F-150 I ordered back in July. With the auto show in town (Orange County, CA) I figured this would be the perfect opportunity for us to both see several of them in person and have her share in my excitement.

Well... my plan back fired.

I got the family up early yesterday to grab breakfast and get to the show at the 9:00 opening to beat the Sunday crowds. We arrived at the show and headed straight to the Ford display. What we found was a HUGE disappointment. Ford had 6 or more 2014 F-150's in various trim levels (including King Ranch) and only one VERY poorly equipped 2015 F-150 behind a barrier so you could not get close. The 2015 they had at the show was a super cab XLT with tan cloth interior and no bells and whistles. The truck was NOT attractive and I can't believe this is what Ford brought to show off its new flagship truck to the SoCal market, especially with all the other manufactures bringing their best stuff.

My wife ended up comparing this to a well equipped GMC Sierra All Terrain. I'll admit it was a beautiful truck but unfortunately she left the show loving the GMC and not thrilled with the new F-150. The 2014 F-150's she got to see at the show looked very dated inside and out compared to the new GMC she was crawling all over. She won't sway me in my original decision (although the GMC made me second guess myself for a few minutes) but it would have been great to have her just as excited about the new truck as I am. Now it seems the house is divided on new truck preference.

The show was not a total loss. At least my kids had fun in the racing simulator at the Ford display and going for a ride at Camp Jeep. Also got to see a nicely done Raptor that Outlaw Off Road brought to the show. Plus, the price was right since I got free tickets from my local Ford dealer.

Dude, that totally sucks! Sometimes leaves a guy wondering what the marketing departments are thinking.

Why would they even showcase the 2014's ?? Somebody in California is smoking some funny cigarettes.

Agreed. However it was funny watching people talk about the 2014's as being the new 2015 F-150. Even saw one guy tapping the body panels on a 2014 and telling his buddy "See, these new aluminum body panels feel much more solid than the old trucks"

not too familiar with SoCal, but I cant imagine there is a huge number of trucks there compared to say, Texas, Alberta, you know, redneck country!

Maybe the marketing gurus thought it wasnt worth it to bring their best trucks to the show

2. California (1,676)
3. Florida (522)
4. Oklahoma (336)
5. Georgia (329)

good to know! Only been to SoCal twice for a few days each time, and I was more into imports / sports cars then...

so yeah, it was probably another bright idea from the marketing dept!

If you want to change her mind on the gm..have her spend 10 minutes on the gm truck forums..it's like Las Vegas gambling to see if you get a good one.
