Hub Actuator Humming Noise Finally Hit My 2016
So it had finally started the humming sound from my driver's side front. We got a snow storm and had to use 4H. Once switched out back to 2H, I heard the humming and knew exactly what it was from reading this forum. I'm becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the quality on these new vehicles. I saved all the recalls and issues that had arrisen for a single appointment at the dealership last week. They replaced all recalls which included door latches and a seat belt part. While inspecting the vehicle they observed a leak in the timing cover which they fixed under warranty. They also heard a popping in the rear leaf springs which needed a replacement of the separation pads (forgot the name of the part). I had a leaking front shock that dripped fluid into the brake pads and was causing an annoying squeal. Now my dealership is great and they fixed it all in two days and have me a loaner. Now this hub issue. I don't know if other brands are better or not but I've never had this many issues when I had my 2002 ranger FX4.
Anybody know if this hub Actuator part has been improved since it's going to be replaced?

I should add this truck is not abused either. It's been through some very light off roading and it's hauled a trailer a few times. Mostly a grocery getter that my wife drives lol.

Hey, consider yourself lucky. Have you read the tons of cases on that issue with new trucks? How many miles on yours? On the new trucks, the issue is almost always a bad vacuum check-valve by the brake reservoir. I have the newest one (blue) on the way. Hopefully that's your issue too. But with older trucks, it could be a cracked vacuum line as well, so make sure either you or dealer check vacuum while moving all the hoses around, especially near the wheel, since those move constantly up and down. Hopefully just a vacuum issue, but make sure to fix it asap in order not to ruin the hubs. Oh, forgot to tell you the easy vacuum test: if the noise goes away when you switch to 4A or 4H, then it's probably a vacuumm issue. Otherwise, an IWE. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Thanks for reply. Yes in tested it by switching from 2H to 4H. When in 4H the sound goes away. It then comes back in 2H. It sounds like the front driver's side. 29k on the odometer.

Thanks for the reply. The tech at the dealership said he thinks they did, but that he couldn't say for sure. He did say he hasn't had any tricks come back for the same issue that they have replaced them on. So it's possible.

Since yours is a '16, you no doubt have the olde original checkvalve. Could be more than one issue, but the checkvalve is cheap and fast.
Got a vacuum pump? Pump up the vac to the suspect IWE and see if it holds a vacuum, seal "could" be bad.
Just a couple ideas, but gives a good excuse to buy a new tool.

FL3Z-3A788-B is the part number for the whole check valve tube assembly Mine isn't bad but I bought one anyway for when it goes bad. Found mine on ebay. Seems to be a popular item because a good portion of them go bad. It's a cheap part and easy to replace.
