How are trailers detected?
#11
I think 2018 now have Trailer BLIS that work with a trailer connected. There was a Ford commercial on the other night claiming this(along with the expected Motor Trend award).

I agree. Don't know if that has to do with trailer mirrors or not, i.e. if you have trailer mirrors you have trailer BLIS, if you don't, you don't.

Thanks once again for all your comments. There is no direct adapter since the EU 13 Pin has a few more wires and we have some different tail lights anyway: we have yellow turn indicators that are seperate from the brake lights and we have tail fog lights that are switched independend from the front fog lights. I've got all these signals somewhere on the back of the car anyway due to the changes made while registering it within the EU, so my plan is to use as many wires as possible from the 7 pin US and then add the missing signals from the tail lights (turn indicators, fog lights).
Since I'll have to start of from scratch, I'll connect the wires one by one so that I can test at what point the trailer is detected.
BlueSpark: Do you think BLIS is triped by a seperate signal? My bet would be that once a trailer is detected, it will automatically trip all systems (BLIS, multiple flashes when changing lanes, no rear parking assist....)

2018 Lariat 4x4
BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow Monitoring
Remote Start System with Remote Tailgate Release
Reverse Sensing System
LED Side-Mirror Spotlights
You can add tow mirrors without BLIS, also.
Side note: It just occurred to me that remote tailgate release when you have a trailer attached is not necessarily a good thing. Clearance concerns.

That's what I thought. No more splicing into or pulling certain wires, everything is computer controlled. When the trailer module senses a trailer it takes over all functions. All the modules talk to each other over the network so the trailer module simply communicates to the other modules that a trailer is connected so they switch to that program. BLIS and park aid turn off, TBC turns on, IC displays trailer and brake control functions, advancetrac recalibrates for trailer sway control. Even the smart charging system should compensate for the increased electrical load.

This might be easier. This harness just plugs into the main harness no splicing.https://www.f150forum.com/f118/4-pin...-7-pin-309811/

Thought, wire up the normal US standards for the trailer functions to the 7 Pin, then get a tap for the other functions (can't believe they don't have an adapter for this since Ford does make EU standard vehicles). The tap should be smart enough to know when brakes are applied and not send power to both turn signals, but send power to the corresponding signal when power is on that one wire.
GL with it!
Blis BTW is all in the tail light housings where the RADAR unit is located, mirrors would only have the yellow light to signal the driver and is not part of the detection system.
