How to tell a 5.0 from a 3.5 N/A
I drive a 2.7L XLT, but there's a supercrew at my work that I'm not sure who drives and it does not have an ecoboost badge. It's a 2015 or newer body style.
Is there a way to tell a 3.5 N/A from a 5.0 by exterior appearance alone? I know some engines are not available on some packages. The truck in question is an XL. I'm guessing it's a 3.5 NA.

I don't think there's any reason an XL would not be able to have a 5.0.
I am not aware of any way to tell them apart by external visual inspection.
Can you hear it running/driving? then I guess there would be someone in it you can just ask. What about grabbing the VIN and running it through a decoder?

crawl under and look at the exhaust manifold. Or see if you can see the plugs from underneath.
Or put a note challenging them to a drag race. If they decline, its a V6. lmao

When I bought my 13, the sales guy told me to look for the license plate in the center of the front bumper, that meant it was a 5.0. Not sure if it still applies.
