Default How often do you change your engine air filter?

Ive been doing it like every 5-7k miles since they are only like $12 on amazn.

What do you guys do? Am I just wasting money? I know Ford recommends like 20-30k but what do you guys think?

When it's dirty, roughly 20K or so. I guess it is still good since I had the oil changed today and they didn't recommend a new one.

When it looks too dirty to blow off and put back in. This usually turns out to be 15K - 20K miles.

I replaced the OE filter after about 1500 miles with one of these.

Yes, you are wasting money. Follow the manual.

Perhaps, but it came in a really cool box with a decal included. I store the OE filter in the box. I haven't figured out yet where to stick the decal.

I can say it again, although it probably won't make any difference. It's not a question of money. Changing an air filter early is just as bad as waiting too long to change it. The filtering capacity doesn't become optimal until the filter collects some dirt. Until then, a lot of that dirt is just passing right through it.

Like Ricktwuhk says, follow the manual. If your driving conditions are really dusty, change it a little sooner.

My rule of thumb has always been about 25,000 miles. Since I change the oil about every 5,000 miles, that amounts to about every fifth oil change. (My wife asked me once how I remembered when to change the oil since I don't put one of those stickers on the windshield. I told her every 5,000 miles. She then asked how I remember when that 5,000 miles is up, and I said "when the odometer reads a multiple of 5,000. She said "just like a man!")
