How much do accidents affect trade in values?
Long story short I let my buddy use my 16 lariat sport while i worked on his truck. Well he hit a deer and looks like he went off the road.
The only damage is a wheel, cracked driver glass, dent in door, and shattered destroyed mirror.
My only concern is when I go to trade it in a few years and shows up on the carfax how much did I get screwed?

I thought a good one but not after this, the estimate is 3k worth in damage and he don't have that cash.
The accident story is really fishy as well he said he didn't go off the road but there is a chunk missing out of the front rim and it is all scratched.
To top it off when i got the truck back there was an empty water bottle laying on the pass floor with something in the bottom. I smelled it. Yea it was rum.
I guess ill just have to take this one, plus the insurance only covers the vehicle and not driver so its my insurance.

Man that sucks. Hopefully he at least wants to cough up the deductible.

Wow I have never heard of a 100 dollar collision deductible. I'd hate to know what you're premium is. Sucks your buddy can't cover the damage. Find better friends...

Actually, not all insurers or repair shops report repairs to Carfax. I had a kid scraped mine last summer in a parking lot (then tried to drive away, claiming he hadn't touched it but that is another story!) . The repair shop, a top class one, not a back street job, told me they dont report these to carfax.

When I had my accident my insurance company (AllState) said they didn't report to Carfax. That's great and all but there is an ethical responsibility to be honest about the history of a vehicle. I know I'd be furious if I bought a used car and found out after the fact that it'd had repairs done...big or small....it's the right thing to do.
I had about $9k worth of repairs done to my truck after I was involved in a hit and run....I know my trade in value is down the drain.

This is #1 reason that NO body besides me drives my truck, I hate it even when taking to the dealer that someone will be driving my vehicle.
If its animal damage as claimed, it falls under Comprehensive coverage, not Collision. At least with the insurance companies I have had over the years.
