Default How Long Will it Be....4 Cylinders??

Okay....I may get beat up for even putting this on the table, makes me cringe myself. But how long do you think it will be before Ford starts playing with idea of taking a modified version of the 2.3L EB 4cyl from the mustang and dropping it in the F-150. If they haven't started working on it already.

The thing makes 310 hp and 320 ft-lbs which is higher than the current base 3.5L at 283hp and 255 ftl-bs. I could see them even dropping the 3.5 in favor of the 2.3TT, after some reworking for truck application.

When the Taurus SHO came back in 2010 it had the first version on the 3.5TT. Test the engine for reliability in a lighter car chassis first and then to the world's surprise drop it in the F-150...with great success. Maybe they will do the same with the 2.3TT.

Ford has been known for radical ideas with the F-150 as of late, maybe we will see it with a the mid-gen refresh when the new transmissions come out.

At some point there are diminishing returns. An engine that small would be in boost much of the time even with an aluminum body truck.

You'll notice that the EcoBoost isn't the base engine in the Mustang either. For lower-trim trucks configured to a price point, they'll want a low-cost engine. Maybe if they ever decide to bring the rest-of-world Ranger to the states (they could call it an F100 to boost their "F-series sells best" even more) they could make it an option there. NA 4, turbo 4, Powerstroke 5.

Nooooo, don't put ary ideas in Ford's corporate haids. I can take a 4 cylinder in a small Mazda, Nissan, Toyota, Ranger, but NOOOOOOO, not in an F150.

given that most 4-cyl turbo these days make more power / torque than a V8 of yesteryear, it doesnt seem too far fetched at all.

Maybe the Ford engineers will find a way to have the soundtrack for a 5.7 Hemi playing through the stereo of an ecoboost 4 cyl. F-150!

The Lincoln MKC 2.3 EB AWD is a beast! I love the way this engine runs but there is no way I can see it working in a F150.

It has more power across a broader range. How would that not work?

I just don't see these smaller engines lasting as long in a half ton pick up truck.
Really, I cant picture a loaded Supercrew 4X4 with a 2.3L EB being a good fit. Plus the fact that MPG in a heavier vehicle like the F150 wouldn't be worth the trade off.

More power doesn't mean it will work in everything.
