Do we know what's causing the fires?

No I don't.

BTW, I just checked Copart and there are two more examples of burned/melted F150 on there right now.

Gotta love the internets. What is "I have seen a bunch of these"? 50? 500? How does that differ from pre-aluminum bodies? Since the engine is on fire in that picture, are you referring to a specific engine with issues?

What is causing what fires? Trucks catch fire everyday. Cars catch fire everyday. Nearly all of them is due to a lack of maintenance / inspection, causing a component to finally fail and spring a leak.

There is no data that I've seen to suggest that either aluminum trucks or newer engines have any higher incidence of fires or anything else than earlier models.

Removed the turbo heat shield to lower GVW so he can tow more? (from another thread, can't find it at the moment).

More seriously though; Brake controller catching fire? https://www.f150forum.com/f118/trail...-smell-331781/

1st thing I would have done was to remove my horse from the trailer ASAP.

I can see it right now. Should I buy the V8 or eco because apparently the eco catches on fire?

That's what happens when you ask a little baby turbo motor to do the job of a V8. They just burst into flames

I think when these things come up, we should all say to buy the 5.0. That will leave more 3.5L EB's available for those of us who want them.

For all we know that may have been another case of the oil cap not being put back on after an oil change, not something inherently wrong with the engine.
