Default How to get 3rd Intelligent Ignition Key - inexpensively

My 2018 STX F150 came with 2 sets of keys. I'd like a third set. What's the most inexpensive option? My key fobs are the 3 button versions. Ace Hardware already made me an extra key but it only opens the doors but won't start the truck. Do I need a keyfob with it? Is that where the transponder is?

Is there a special programming procedure for the 3 button keyfobs vs. the keyfobs for higher trim F150's with auto start?

In case I every loose my keys, I'd like to be able to use a hidden exterior door key to open the truck and then have an extra transponder hidden in the cab to start the truck. Alternative would be a tow truck in a lost key situation!

TIA

IIRC, a third party can make you a third key, but it won't start the truck without the dealer programming it...

I have the third key. So I need to buy a new keyfob from the dealer and they're the only ones that can program it?

Yes, you will need a key with a FOB. You can buy one off of Amazon or EBAY. Since you already have two functioning keys, you can program the FOB yourself. The instructions start on page 77 of your owner's manual under "Passive Anti-Theft System". You will have to get a Ford dealer or a locksmith with the proper machine to cut the physical part of the key.

I thought a keyfob with a transponder was required to start the truck.

Does this key have a transponder inside. All I want is a key that will open and start the truck. (no need for keyfob buttons).

Do you happen to have a part number and will this work for a 2018?

You mean like this key? Yes, it is a FOB key, but without buttons.

Do you have a part number? I see plenty of them for up to 2016 MY but nothing beyond that. I suspect Ford discontinued transponder key for 2018.

Did you click the link in my other post? The description specifically says 2018 Ford F-150 transponder key.
