How Ford Treats the Coyote.
 

To me, it seems like Ford treats the 5.0 like the good looking daughter the farmer keeps in the house while he lets his other 2 daughters run around and do as they please. I wonder how many non-car/truck people think Ford dropped their V-8's altogether? The only badging is the Flex Fuel plaque on the tail gate:no:. I've seen plenty of other engine badging for a whole hell of a lot less engine under the hood! Also, why not bump the power up a little more, the Mustang is rated at 435 with basically the same engine. Main differences are the cams and compression ratio, the bottom end is the same. Absolutely one of the finest V-8's to come out of Detroit.

It's a good engine but... It's designed (and associated primarily ) for a mustang. They just happen to throw it in the f150. The mustang must rev to make great power which is the opposite of what a typical truck is designed for when using it as a truck. So towing, hauling etc the other engines far exceed the 5.0 capabilities for torque in the first half of the rpm band. So sure ford could market peak power at stratospheric rpms for a truck but the ecos are more competitive compared to any other gas engine in the segment for usable torque.

I agree! Not to shame the Ecoboost in anyway... Sometimes the other two Farmer's daughters can still be pretty dang good lookin' and lots of fun hahaha! Their marketing worked man. They made a boosted V6 that performed as good if not better, most definitely better in some cases then V8's. This wasn't really something new. The Buick Grand National did the same thing. A sports car different then everyone else at the time, a fast boosted V6 that looked as sexy and performed as good or better then the other cars in it's class. It was however new for the Fullsize Truck gas powered market. They could easily see more power and torque out of a boosted V8 (look at the Roush and Shelby). I wish they would! A twin turbo coyote F-150 and Mustang would be sick!!! The reason I think they haven't, is because of the Shelby and Roush, it would compete with these two. Maybe why they put an Ecoboost in the Raptor for 2017. That way if you could have the options and it wouldn't piss off Roush and Shelby? Not really sure. Just my thoughts. Or maybe the Shelby and Roush would have to surpass that. If there were as many boosted 5.0's as there are the Ecoboost's on the road. They would have to make the Raptor, Roush, Shelby trucks even more competitive to out perform the normal F-150's everyone has.

I came from Volkswagen land before this. I was completely smitten to get back to a regular V8 engine. I was running from turbochargers, egr/direct injection/high pressure fuel pump issues. The whole way vehicles are being sold now just turns me off. Every 5 years they expect you to buy another one. I'm just not that kind of car owner. I don't want to own an ecoboost that needs wastegate control valves, timing chains, and a valve cleaning at 105k miles, so might as well trade it in...

Maybe the 5.0 isn't the greatest engine suited to a truck, but in the 3 weeks I've owned mine, it's more than impressed me. I'm excited to do some towing with it and see how the 3.55 rear end works with the rest of the driveline.

I can think of 2 other engines offered right now that will out tow it in a half ton. The 3.5 EB and the 6.2 GM. Besides, what are the percentage of half tons you see going down the road with something being pulled behind them.

Actually the 6.2 isn't rated as high as the 5.0!

I don't believe so anyhow. Last I saw the 3.5 Ecoboost had a max tow of a little over 12k/lbs, the 5.0 was a little over 11k/lbs, and the GM 6.2 had around 9K/lbs. But I could be wrong.

My take is that Ford is promoting the EcoBoost engines because of CAFE goals they have to meet while still offering vehicles that can satisfy the power outputs that customers want.

Good analogy. I think the 5.0 still accounts for 50% of F150 sales. Ford just markets the EBs like crazy because they've invested so much in the technology.

The 5.0 is the daughter who stays in to do homework, while the EBs are out getting "floored" by every dude in the town haha

Except real world fuel economy from the 3.5 EB is no better. The Ford GT is evidence of where their heart really is. Car should have had a super charged Voodoo. Weber carb'd 289's, 427's, super charged DOHC 5.4 and now a 3.5EB.:unsure:
