How Can OIl Level Rise
So I have a 2015 3.5 Ecoboost that i bought used. It has103,000 miles.
Ive had two oil changes by the dealer since owning it and here is the first question.
The oil level on the stick is more than a eight inch past the hole in the stick which is past the hash marks. Should i drain it to have it within the hash marks?
Secondly, with the oil changes at 4,000 miles ive seen the oil level rise another quarter inch on the dip stick. I smelled the stick this morning after it sat all night on my level garage floor. It smelled like oil but cant claim i smelled gas. The oil was changed last week.
Does a catch can fix this?
Appreciate those who have had this happen to them to share their experience.
My engine idles and runs like a top but this rising level has me bewildered!

My 3.5 eco 2012 did it and it turned out to be gas leaking from a bad injector. The gas smell however was very evident when checking the dip stick. Dealer changed out injector(s) and that fixed it. At least the oil level didn't rise anymore.

That little extra on the dipstick height won't hurt anything. Since the dealer is changing it be sure to check the level before you leave. Having done that keep an eye on the level. If you idle a lot in the winter you'll see more dilution. Also, there was a TSB for this issue, was it done to your truck?

If the same person changed your oil both times, it could be that he is in a hurry and not letting all the oil out of your engine. I know most folks get a filter change during their oil change. If you want to confirm they are changing your filter, put a small mark on the old one with a sharpie. Confirm it is a not there after you change it next time.
Sometimes I have placed a small x with a pencil on the outside of rear tires when having them rotated. When picking the vehicle up, I look for the x on the front wheels. It's always is there. But it gives me a way to check without even letting the dealer know I'm checking.
