Horrible noise from locking rear differential. - 2018 F150

Umm...sounds normal if you exceed 25mph and it disengages. That noise sounds like trying to reengage when it falls under 20mph but is interrupted by another push of the pedal.

Here's a link to a few others with the same issue.

Based on the design of the ELD it will make a little noise, as its not technically locked until the wheels experience forward motion. Its hard to describe, but the switch doesn't actually "lock" the differential, it simply releases the locking mechanism which uses the rotation of the axle to actually apply the force that engages the locker. As a result of this, there can be a clunk when it engages/disengages. There are some good videos floating around that depict how it works.
With that in mind, if your locker is engaging and disengaging repeatedly, it would make that noise. I'm not sure what speed you were going (or what speed the truck "thought" you were going), but that noise is clearly the mechanism repeatedly engaging. So if you listen again, the little clunks that are heard for the first couple times you hit the gas is the locker engaging as the wheels begin to rotate, and then for some reason the mechanism goes crazy. I'm not sure if that is normal, I've never driven mine on slick snow and ice and have never experienced that issue. Mine however does clunk as expected when it engages...it is not silent.
After reading your new comment I'm gonna edit this and say the mechanism has broken. If you see how the mechanism works then it'll be possible to imagine how it could make that noise if its failing to engage fully. Sounds like a warranty issue.

Holy crap! That can't be normal. I haven't even tried mine yet. Hope it's not like that. Ha ha. I'm afraid to do a lot of things on this stupid truck for fear of having issues, like never opening the moonroof, grinding IWEs, and not this. Ha ha. Mine has maxtow, so don't know if the larger diff is any better than the std one. OP, please keep us posted what dealer says and does. Good luck.

With all those issues, you need to call Ford corporate and open a case for a buyback. I'd have that thing at the dealer every time it did anything wrong... more days, more tickets, more justification.
