Horn Beeps Upon Exit
#12
Defect
This is more than an annoyance, its a defect. Honking the horn in this manner is illegal in California :
27001. (a) The driver of a motor vehicle when reasonably necessary
to insure safe operation shall give audible warning with his horn.
(b) The horn shall not otherwise be used, except as a theft alarm
system which operates as specified in Article 13 (commencing
with Section 28085) of this chapter.
My civic sounds a chime from the interior in the same situation, and does not honk the horn. The way Ford has executed this feature is unlawful.

Its not safe for the vehicle to run with no one in it? I guess the remote start feature is totally unsafe then? Or is it just unsafe if there is no honking? The honking is what makes it safe? All other cars that don't honk on exit are unsafe? I'm so confused? In any case, my dealer is going to treat it as a defect, and fix it for me. Even tho i't be so much fun to screw around with hacking my week old trucks main computer, I'd rather have the dealer do it.

I hope they know the liability they are opening up for themselves by fixing your "defect" for you.
The Dangers Of ‘Keyless’ Cars
The car had a keyless ignition. After parking, the girl’s stepfather pressed the button to turn it off, but not hard enough, and the quietly running engine never shut off. The next morning, Erin woke up sick.

Yeah. Really.
I would do it by myself to my own vehicle with no second thoughts about it. But a business is a different story. Changing it for the customer opens them up to numerous lawsuits and possible criminal charges if the current owner or whomever buys it in the future has something happen.
That's the world we live in nowadays. We are a lawsuit happy society constantly blaming somebody else for problem we ourselves create.

Beer Gut Extraordinaire
I actually like some form of notification that I left with the key, sometimes I accidentally hit the start button twice and it shuts the engine but turns the ignition back on. GM vehicles have a quieter, muted blip of the horn, not a pissed off New York traffic jam "HONK HONK" like the Ford..
