Switch is likely fine if you check it and clean it.

From what I have been able to find out, it may be required to purchase the entire latch/lock assembly (FL3Z-16700-B) ~$40. I have not been able to find the switch/sensor by itself.

Suit yourself. Told you it is halfway up the left fender. Maybe you should go look.

I checked and there is nothing on the left or right side fender area. Here are some pics of my truck. 2015 XLT 5.0.

Apparently the separate switch is not on your model.

That's because you posted a previous model pic in the 2015+ section and kept telling him to check

Check the hood switch at connector C127 with a meter. See attached diagrams.

Quick update. About a week ago I took the latch apart checked the sensor and installed it back. The sensor was working fine. When I installed the latch, I installed it a little higher then before. This way the hood when closed is pressing more on the latch. This seems to have fixed it.

Following this thread and going to (unfortunately) thread-Jack a little..

I installed aftermarket LED headlights yesterday; replacing high and lo beam halogen bulbs with LED retrofits... (Sylvana / OSRAM 9005 & H11) - direct plug in replacement units; no wiring changes or anything; sold as plug and play.

since then, my hood ajar message has been coming up constantly.

I don’t see any connection between the headlight circuit and the hood circuit - but the timing is too coincidental for me to dismiss...

is there a possibility it’s related electrically; or did the hood switch just give it up while I had the hood up at the same time?

Edit - 2018 F150 XLT 4x4 3.5 eco; Dearborn build.

Well, you were working in an area adjacent to the hood latch switch, so, first step is to inspect and clean the switch. If that doesn't resolve, then check that the hood latch assembly is set so that it completely closes when the hood is down. If yes, check the operation of the switch with a multi-meter. After that, the wiring does exist in the same harness as the horn and lights.
