Here is why Ford may bring back SVT Lightning

I wouldn't be so sure. As a former Lightning owner, I'm impressed by my 13 5.0 RCSB. Drop 500-600 pounds with the 15, add 25HP, and with the 5.0's better trans The old L won't be giving any blood baths to the 15 5.0 spec'd out similarly.

14.6@95mph, dead stock, 2012 RCSB, 3.31 rear gears on stock stx 18's
Take away 700 pounds and 25 horsepower and I think stock for stock the 2015 would win.

It would be possible with more boost ,but I think it's going to take more than 700lbs and 25 HP to knock a second off the quarter mile times.

That was pulled from the 5.0 quarter mile times and mods thread. Not sure what boost your talking about. And I think it's possible, but remember that the big weight loss is in the bigger trucks like crew cabs. More could be saved from removing more weight, but that's without any power adders.

Don't forget the all important 3.55LS or locker rear. The first STX i drove had 3.31 open rear. Traction control kicked in and killed the launch. My truck with 3.55LS rear spins just enough that the traction control doesn't interfere, unless I'm going around a corner. The 3.55LS I believe is good for a half second. Now subtract 5 tenths for the 500# weight loss, and another 2 for the 25HP. Now maybe 13.4-13.5 bone stock in a RCSB. I'd say 99% percent of stock lightnings would be in for a surprise.

Many years ago, my dad owned a 2nd gen lightning. The times I rode in it were a total blast, and that sweet, sweet sound of the supercharger was music to my ears. I'd love to see the lightning trucks brought back into the market, and I could see them doing well.

Also, you can put e85 in the tank for an extra 15 horsepower. (Assuming you still get the bump like we do in the current model 5.0)
