If they had the new lightning, I'd imagine the 5.0 would be like the eco or with a procharger/supercharger. Even then it would still be around 50-60k. That being said I think people would buy them before the Raptors just because of the history and track applications. And why would Ford have to do so much R&D? They private sector has done that for them (Brembo, Icon, etc). All they would have to do is plug and play. Seems feasible, but I doubt it will happen. Kind of like putting a 4 cyl diesel in the base trucks.

The R+D mention was in reference to the suggestion to put a Mustang suspension in a new lightning.
One other reason the Lightning will likely not resurface.

I see a different Raptor every time I drive through town. A company in a town a few hours away, that works in the oilfield, has a fleet of Raptors for work trucks, at least 25 of them.
What I think is funny is that I'm sure 3 out of 4 Raptors I see have never even been on a dirt road, funny how people buy these trucks and never drive offroad, ever.
If I spent more time offroad, I'd get a Raptor, instead I got a FX4 since I do like to play in mud and sand.
But if a new Lightning comes out, my wife will be trading in her Lariat.

As nice as the Raptor is, it has a very limited market. At 13,000 sales per year, that means that the 12,000 Ford dealers worldwide average selling less than 2 Raptors each per year. If you want to keep it in the US, then each US dealer averages selling 4 Raptors a year.
In 2013, Ford sold 763,000 F-series trucks. That makes the Raptor about 1.7% of truck sales. All those other high-powered trucks did not disappear because they were selling too many of them.

There are also about
3 F250/350s
4 F150s
2 GM/Chevys
2 Tundras
2 Rams
