Here is why Ford may bring back SVT Lightning
Should Ford bring back the SVT Lightning sport truck with the lightweight 2015 F150?

Were Ford Motor Company and the SVT Group to take the 6.2L Raptor motor with 411 horsepower and 434lb-ft of torque and install it in a rear wheel drive 2015 F150 RCSB with a curb weight of 4,300-4,400lbs, it would most certainly stomp the old school blown Lightning in a straight line. If Ford would then use similar suspension and braking technology to what they have used in the Mustang over the past few years and apply those goodies to the new SVT F150, it would almost certainly be the best handling Ford truck of all time – if not the best handling half ton truck ever.

Why would they spend the R+D money (particularly to upgrade the truck to mustang suspension) for what would be a very, very limited run model? The ROI just isn't there.

Well, good point. But, if Ford takes what they learned from the Tremor and combine that with the lightweight construction of the 2015 F150 and the high performance V8 of the new Mustang, the American performance truck market could very well be looking at the best performing half ton truck ever – one that would likely beat the Ram SRT10 that was powered by the Viper V10.

It could always not be a limited run model. Basically they could have the off-road capable raptor, then the on-road beast that would be the lightning. It would broaden the spectrum. They'd reach those that want to have a quick truck from the factory without spending a fortune modifying it, like how they reached the off-road crowd with a very capable truck from the factory.

Last year Ford sold about 13,000 Raptors and is expected to easily surpass that number by the end of 2013.
In 2013, Ford sold 763,000 F-series trucks. That makes the Raptor about 1.7% of truck sales. All those other high-powered trucks did not disappear because they were selling too many of them.

That was 2012. In 2013, it was closer to 20,000, and many at MSRP. The Raptor is a golden goose for Ford.
