Just saw this video as well. I had myself convinced to go for the 3.5EB, but this changes things. And the 2018 V8's will be married up to the 10 speed tranny. Might just have been un-convinced!

That was interesting... but...
The 3rd tech interviewed; the 3rd in a row choosing the V8 said when asked why, said "torque"... he must have never driven a 3.5 EcoBoost, then. The 3.5 Eco has more torque, and far sooner in the rev band...
The 5.0 (my motor, btw) makes decent torque, but it's higher up. What I like about the 302-inch, four-cam four-valve V8 is it's smooth, linear power delivery and the music it makes. Angels! sing when it's throttle is opened wide.

I took my 17 SC 4wd 3.5 EB on it's first "long" highway trip last week end, 370 round trip, most of the way cruise set on 78 mph (1800 RPM), some hills along the way and averaged 18.5 going out and 19.1 coming back. The only change was I filled half a tank up (to full) with 93 before the return trip. My truck only has 1600 on it now so hopefully mileage will go up as it continues to work in.

Pull a Lund Baron fully rigged for Salmon fishing to Lake Michigan twice a year for 220 miles each way, then drive back and forth as a grocery getter. 15.6 mpg pulling the boat, 800 miles since at 23.7mpg general driving. Tried all modes in the transmission, believe it or not the truck / (I) seemed happiest in 4rth gear, with 5-6 lockout in trailer mode while pulling the boat, up to 70mph. Engine ran happily between 2500 to 3500 rpm and with robust response. Just my numbers others may differ. If there was one change it would be to have the 3.73 rear end.

pros... pros at what? Using sockets? Lol I'm sure they are good guys but I wouldn't make purchase decisions based in an internet video of what these guys say. Omg.
Remember that some of them (I'm sure the nice kid 3rd in the order interviewed is a lot boy who fetches and washes) are the guys changing your mom's oil, so be kind.
But srsly... When first presented with the opportunity to invest in one of these trucks (suddenly, when my daily driver was totaled while parked in front of my house) I knew I didn't need the soul of an F350 so I at first entertained the 2.7 EcoBoost with it's CGI block, great new design and superb potential mpg... I even posted the Q as a no0b.
Then I did some research, remembering what a friend of mine who used to be Edmunds dot com tech editor told me about the Coyote a few years back. He pointed at one at a car show and spoke reverently, "That motor's bad ***." The light came on, so to speak. Then I read Tom Wilson's outstanding piece on the new Mustang engine's development. It's a long read, but a pleasure if you're a gearhead. If you know anything at all about V8 racing engine history, you'll recognize what the Coyote engine is made of.

4th in the 6R80 is a 1.14:1 ratio. There is no 1:1 in that transmission. Coupled to my 3.31 axle, 4th gear for me produces a 3.77 final. At 60 - 65 mpg tow cruise, revs are near perfect. I only went 1" larger diameter over stock with my tire selection.

If all things were equal which they aren't any of these engines would be a great choice.
The smaller 2.7 EB would be my last choice if there was any towing to be done. Why buy the midget when you can have the 3.5 Ecoboost which does everything better except unloaded MPG's?
The 3.5 Ecoboost will tow that trailer with ease up hills and anywhere you need it to go. The 2.7 is not a good choice for towing in high elevation and hilly terrain. The torque of these EB engines is incredible. They are diesel like with the low end torque and reliability has been very good.
Others mileage may vary but I'm not buying the 2.7 unless I want a daily driver that does very little towing like a boat under 3000 lbs.
The 5.0 is a tough call. If I did no towing at all that would be the choice for me. Ford's baby is the Ecoboost so they are sandbagging this engine trying to push everyone to the EB engines.
This 5.0 could be built to compete with the EB if they wanted it to. It makes all it's torque at too high an RPM for me to seriously consider it as a towing vehicle.
