Heated / Cooling Seat Fix - Upgrade & preventative fix
I noticed you identified an unused pin in the connector. Is the corresponding pin on the printed circuit board also an unused circuit? If so, you could modify the board to bridge the unused pin with the other pin and then "Y" together the connector so the two pins share the current load if there is a true current load issue. I suspect the real problem was corrosion on the pin and a poor connection caused the overheat. You have done a great job identifying and documenting the issue and thank you for it. I think that connector needs to be part of my scheduled maintenance to occasionally remove it to check it and use some contact cleaner on it. DeoxIT D5 is what I use and is the ideal contact cleaner and protection for such a connector. It is safe for the plastic used in the connectors as well as circuit boards.
My heat stopped working on the passenger side a while ago. Ford wanted $175 to diagnose it. I just noticed the cool doesn’t work either. No damage to my large plug. Any chance there is something else to check when both ac and heat aren’t working? The dash buttons click sometimes and don’t other times.
