Sorry dude. You are wrong. There was, it was a funky year when the Superduty was coming out, but they still labeled them 1998's. My dad had one. The best truck ever.

With all that chrome not a fan. One with a sport package would look great but I have no need for a heavier truck with a bigger engine.

If Ford put some development work into upgrading the 6.2l (heads, intake, etc) into today's technology, I'd consider one. I just came out of a diesel and I don't use it hard enough to justify the costs incurred (in initial cost and normal maintenance). But the 6.2l is a dinosaur as far as I'm concerned. It does look way better than the F150.

I fell in love with this truck when I saw it. Then I went to the build tool and saw the price. Nope, I can't afford it. And all it would do is cruise pavement. So, $70k for the truck then an instant $?k for EGR and DEF deletion just to make it normal. Maybe if I had more disposable income and less kids.....and more land with more cattle and more heavy equipment. etc. I'm barely justifying owning a 1/2 ton.

You guys are sort of both right.

The f350 did skip from the 97 to the 99 ...... But you could buy a 99 F 350 in the year 1998 ( they released them early )

Sounds crazy but if you bought the new super duty F350 in 1998 it was technically a 1999 model according to Ford.

I bought a left over 1997 f350 in September 1998..... My other choice would have been the 99 F350 super dutys that were already on the lot.

I liked saving $12,000 and bought the 97

Offically Ford never produced a 1998 f350

I would love to trade in my 15' Platinum for the 17 SD Platinum but damn they are so expensive. Might look again to purchase at the end of 17' once they have a few discounts. I really like the look of them though.

No worries, I mistyped...it was a '99. Thanks for catching that.

Im saying the price comparison between your 2004 and your friends 2017 platinum isn't appropriate. Features/Equipment wise the comparable truck to yours would be a supercab XLT with a few options and aftermarket leather, that would get you closest to how your 2004 would be optioned.

Your friends truck has modern luxury features that would have been unheard of on many luxury cars in the era of your 2004. Ford isn't forcing anyone to buy loaded platinums, even a bottom level lariat without tech goodies would have a large list of options unavailable in 2004. Incentives are also much higher than in the past, even what looked at as a percentage of MSRP.

Inflation has to be taken into account as that was 13 years ago. A loaf of bread was a nickel at one time too, time goes by and prices go up.

The way to look at pricing is not to compare to the past, but to compare it to other manufacturers offerings given similar tech and features.
Point taken, but you still can't convince me that there's $43k+ (I believe he said it was $77k) more in electronic goodies and mechanical functionality in 2017 over our 2004. AND, his 2017 still isn't a dually at that price. I do understand I'm talking a bit of apples vs. oranges, but you get the idea.

We've routinely hauled 25,000 lbs. on our 36' gooseneck with the 2004, so I don't want to hear about how much more power/mechanical functionality the 2017 has over the 2004. Hell, my dad hauled 18,000 lb. loads of logs with his 2003 F-250 with a 5.4 liter last fall. MANY loads.

Vintage-wise, we're not talking a Model T vs. GT350 size gap here. Even if you assume inflation to be at 3% for 13 years that's still only an increase of 39%...which puts the number at $47k...and unless I'm mistaken, that won't get you a 2017 dually with a diesel and 4x4. And brand comparison means nothing in this case, I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a GM or a RAM either...they're all overpriced.

Bottom line, I'm sure they'll be a great truck...but at those price points they damn well should be. For now, we'll keep rockin' the '04. Good luck to everyone that takes the plunge.
