Hard-wire Whistler and a dash cam
Hi guys,
Mods, please move to appropriate forum if necessary, but I was not allowed to post in the How-To section for some reason...
I'm looking for info on the best way to hard-wire a USB-powered dash cam and a Whistler radar detector up to the mirror area. My truck is an XL Sport and does not have any power going to the mirror. I checked that first. I'm sure there must be power going to the lights, but I'm not sure how much juice that has or how to tap into it.
Any suggestions welcomed. Trying to clean up all the excess wires.

Dash Cam power hookup
I ran my wire down the right side A pillar to the fuse panel in the passenger foot well. I then used an ATR Micro2 add-a-fuse in #36 which is switched with the ignition. To the right of the panel is a convenient stud & nut to use for ground.
Mine also required USB power so got one of these...
It has two usb outlets, so I used double sided foam tape to attach the 2nd port under the glove box for passengers to have another place to charge stuff.

Ok guys, I'm looking at the various fuse taps and I need to know a) do I need a super low profile tap to fit under the fuse box cover? and b) where do you connect a GROUND?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I just used a tap, not sure if it's considered low profile or not but it fit... If all else fails, buy one and keep the receipt, they're cheap anyways. For ground there's a screw in that area on a bare metal bracket if I remember correctly which is grounded. I used that. Works fine.

Ok, I'm calling B.S. on this guys. I bought the parts above and there's no way in hell that add-a-tap will go into the fuse slot. I put at least 50lbs of pressure on it and it doesn't go in. It just doesn't fit. Thanks for nothing, I guess, I have now wasted money on useless crap from Amazon. I am going with advice that another person gave me to get the tiny little fuse taps instead of the big add-a-tap with wire. Unless someone has some magic hint on how to get it in, I'm gonna leave this thread P.O.'d.

Well, don't know what to say but the stuff I used was mentioned in a previous post as fitting; it did take a LOT of pressure to push the tap in but it did go in and the fuse panel cover snaps in flush without hitting anything. I'll take a pic tomorrow.
