Default hard to find 6.5 bed size

Why is it so hard to find a F150 crew cab with a 6.5 ft. bed.
I was told there were very few of them available (3) in southern ca.

I am in NorCal. Last May the dealer looked 200 miles out for me. He finally said I would have to order one to get the 6.5' bed.

They are hard in Michigan to find but not impossible. Most of the reason is when they have them on the lot they sell quick. I own one myself and couldn't be happier.

Just did a quick search of 2018 F150 XLT and Lariat crew cabs with 6.5' beds within 50 miles of the 91911 zip code:

There are quite a few around here. I guess city slickers don't need the longer bed since they figure all you do is commute with the truck. The dealers order what sells in their areas.

Now that's a truck, I don't care much for the 5.5 bed, it looks too small compared to the cab.

I agree. 8 foot extended cab isnt the right porportion. 8 foot screw superduty is pretty nice but it is massive. 6.5 screw 150 is just right... heres mine

5.5 bed is more suv than truck.

Had to go out of state to locate a 6.5 that had what I wanted.

In late 2016 after the 17's were on the lot, I was looking for a leftover 16 XLT 302A SCREW 6.5' bed with a bench. Couldnt find one with Ford's website tool, so i did a webchat with their customer service. They have the ability to search nationwide inventory instead of the 100mi search on the website. Ford's search turned up 4 matching my description in the country. One in Texas, two in Seattle and one in Denver. They are around, but you may have to travel to get it if you are not ordering one.

This^^^^. The closer you are to sticks where trucks are used on farms, they become way more common. I bought the only 6.5ft bed truck on the lot when I got mine. But if I go to Ocala (2 hours away and in the sticks), 5.5ft beds are uncommon.
