It happened again...
Took my 15 Lariat supercab into dealer on Monday morning while on vacation to get it checked out for the check engine light that had been on the previous week and had gone off on its own. They ended up pulling the fuel tank and replacing some emission valve thing that sits on the tank. Since it would only take 2 hours I hung around and of course started walking around the lot! A 2017 XLT crew in magnetic with 20 inch wheels really caught my eye! 302A, double sunroof, 2.7 with 3.55 locking, navigation, trailer tow, tailgate step, sync connect, the most loaded XLT I'd ever seen! It's in the drive-way now! Got $32,250 for mine in real dollars and the XLT was discounted $12,200 off the 51,500 sticker. Picked up last night because they had to put in a spray in liner. Paid them just shy of $8000 difference with the liner and a new thing in the overhead brake light called pulse!! (Flashes 4 times really fast and then stays solid when you touch the brake) anyway long long story short I went from a lariat to a loaded XLT and I couldn't be Happier! Will post some pics if it ever quits raining here!

That sounds like something I would do lol. I've been looking around for my brother in law, who is currently working overseas. He gets back at the end of the month and wants to trade his 14 Lariat for a 17. I thought it would be fun, but now it's giving me the bug to trade also. I trying to practice self restraint lol. Besides, I planned on keeping my 15 for at least 3 years. It's been two years this month. That will give me a year for the 18's to appeal to me a little more I guess.
On the 3rd brake light pulse thing. Was it a programming change? Or it it a physical device that they installed?

It's something they install, it costs $299 but they say it really helps protect you from being hit from behind and it's supposed to lower your insurance. I haven't talked to my agent yet to see if this is true. It is something new that Apple Autos is offering on all new vehicles now.

I have this installed for my 3rd brake light:

This is one of the better/premium flash modules. So at $38, they make a ton of money selling this pulse system, probably only second to the paint coating.

It's what ambulances have had for years. You will notice a blinking light before a solid if you aren't paying attention, being used to them or not. VERY common on motorcycles also.

Congrats on the new truck! What drove you to go from a Lariat to an XLT?
I'm not sold on the pulsing brake light, quite a few vehicles have them around here and i think it's annoying. I certainly wouldn't pay extra for it.

I had the idea for that pulse thing about 20 years ago. It was just a thought in my head but, in my version I had the idea that the brake light would flash/pulse only if you hit the brakes hard, that way people behind you would know if you're just slowing or slamming on the brakes. I pitched the idea to my wife and she thought it was a dumb idea.

That's what people said when GM started with the daytime running lights, but everybody has DLR's now and it's so much easier to see oncoming traffic with them. You'll ALWAYS notice the brake light pulsing no matter how popular they get.
