Default Got a Silverado while F-150 in shop...not bad.

My truck is in the shop because someone rear-ended me. GEICO is paying for me to have a rental truck which is a 2016 Silverado LT SCAB V8 4x4 (similar to XLT but way better for the money). I must say, for it being pretty much a work-truck model, I am impressed. I drove the crap out of it to get a real feel for it to compare to my F-150.

-Steering and handling are significantly tighter than the F-150, you feel more in control. There is no swaying at high speeds and it hugs the turns much better than my F-150. It doesn't drift when you hit a bump or sway at 70+mph.

- I average 23mpg on winter blend as opposed to 18mpg in my 3.5EB

-It has HD radio and much better sound than my $54K Lariat. I prefer the ergonomics of the F-150 accessory controls and navigation layout which is one of the main reasons I bought the F-150 in the first place, it seems more "natural".

- The Silverado has all LED headlighting and interior lighting and you only have to pay $38K to get it as opposed to $56K from Ford.

- Acceleration: Throttle response is better in the Silverado, especially from a dead stop but my 3.5EB is much faster up top. The Chevy does show its weight on hard acceleration and falls on its face up top as opposed to the F-150 which just keeps pulling like a freight train thanks to the two snails under the hood. The Chevy doesn't suffer from rough downshifts like the F-150.

- I test drove an XLT with cloth etc. when buying the Ford. The LT offers a better interior for that class. Their standard gauge layout looks more upscale than the ford, and the digital display screen looks better.

- I like the ergonomics of the F-150 interior better, although the Silverado makes much better use of organization on the bench seat (Both my F-150 and the Silverado have a bench seat).

Just thought I would share my thoughts for people looking at both options. At the end of the day I would still prefer my F-150, it looks superior to the Silverado, and I will live with the swaying that comes with the aluminum body because the acceleration is night and day over the Chevy. The ergonomics of the interior are far better in the F-150 as well. I just figured I would post something other than people complaining about their F-150, start a comparison/contrast discussion.

Both Ford and Chevy trucks have their pros and cons.

I've rented a ton of Tahoes and Suburbans and while they're nice looking overall, have nice Bose stereos, ice cold seats and get great MPGs, they look like a cheap Chevy Cruze on the inside as Chevy still doesn't know how to disguise cheap plastic nor do they even try to differentiate the interiors of their cheap models from their premier models.

That said, I wish Ford had the 6.2 Chebby motor along with the 8spd.

To each their own. Neither 1/2 ton model really impresses me to be quite honest and I wouldn't be caught dead in a Dodge product.

I don't know what sway you are talking about. My truck drives just as well as my 2008 if not better. Ford would not engineer a truck with aluminum just so it can bounce around all over the place.

Thanks for comparing the Silverado to the F150. It was quite interesting to me, as well as others I bet!

You can't compare a Chevy LT to a Ford XLT. More like Chevy LT to Ford Platinum. I just traded in my 1 year old Tahoe LT for my F150 simply because Chevy can't fix the problems they are having with the latest generation SUV/Trucks. Search for drive line vibration and you'll see what I mean. Drove me crazy so now I"m here and can't believe I didn't get an F150 sooner.

Sounds like you should've test drove the Chevy before you spent all that money on the F1 , I did test drive a 2015 Silverado and thought the acceleration was terrible. Had to push the gas pedal an inch just to start moving. The interior seemed real cheap to me and also way smaller.
But I will say they are a little less expensive which is nice, sometimes I still wonder if I shoulve gotten the lt2 z71 as opposed to my lariat 502a

The High country is the Platinum/King Ranch, LTZ is Lariat and LT is XLT as far as comparability correct?. Hence the LT starts at $36K.

I've never noticed any odd handling on my F150. Drives more like a car than any pickup I've ever used, including the '15 Silverados I tried.

My 502A Lariat has HD radio...

Only the LTZ and above has LED headlights in the Silverado. Starts at $48k.

GM is notorious for non-linear gas pedals. The first few inches provides 60% of the throttle, and last 4" provides the other 40% (or whatever the ratio is). Rest assured that the Ford is the quicker truck.

I think OP is mistaken about the trim level he had based on the LED lighting comment.

Brighter, Longer-Lasting LED Lighting
Silverado WT, LS, Custom,6 LT and LT Z71 feature High Intensity Discharge (HID) Projector headlamps for improved range and brightness and LED signature daytime running lamps. Silverado LTZ, LTZ Z71 and High Country feature a full LED lighting package that includes LED headlamps, daytime running lamps, fog lamps, park/turn signal lamps and tail lamps. You can count on the new Silverado to light the road or trail ahead with enhanced visibility and improved efficiency.
