Got irritated yesterday..
So I had to make a run for work from Fort Walton to Tallahassee yesterday. 167 miles one way, interstate speed of 75mph. Mild hills. I was hauling about 700lbs of copper line in the back of the truck. Even though my truck is tuned which helped it tons...the 10 speed kept hunting from thourgh 9 and 10 and sometimes even dropping to 8th. now the truck has more than enough power. I don't really off-road the truck that much but I am really wanting to either Re-gear the truck to 4.10 for the 35's or just drop it back down to stock size tires.
With the exhaust I can hear it change gears and I don't know why it annoys me so much but it does. Highway runs when hauling anything makes me miss my 8-speed ram with 3.92s.
I really like this set up and around town it's great..but highway running with these heavy tires and 3.31 is getting old. Or am I crazy.
Anyone with a similiar set up even with 3.73 experience the trans jumping between 10th and 9th that much?

Exactly what you should expect to happen with a 5.0, 35" tires, 3.31 gears, and 3 overdrive gears in the transmission. Live with it and lock out gears when it starts hunting, buy smaller tires, or regear - your choice.

If it bothers you, lock out a couple gears.

Use the option to lock out some gears if it bothers you that much.
Three overdrive gears, 35" tires, 3.31 gear ratio, and some weight in the bed... And an engine that likes to rev to make power in comparison to the ecoboosts (and I'm not saying that as a good or bad, just the way it is). Can't understand why the transmission might be shifting a bit...

3.31 rear axle with the 5.0 and 35" tires? With probably 1k lbs or more in total payload on board? Yeah, you might not hold 10th gear. Lock it out? That doesn't stop you being annoyed by shifting, lock out 9th too?
I mean this is like the textbook example of a bad combination lol

Ditto what everyone else is saying. You just don't have enough gear for those tires. Without looking it up, you turned your effective gear ratio into something like a 3.10 with those tires. That's just not enough gear for any truck with any motor. Let alone a full size truck with a high revving 5.0.
If it were my truck (which it wouldn't be because I would not buy a 5.0 with a 3.31 gear), I would go back to the stock tire size.

In terms of fixing this less than optimal condition by changing tires, you wouldn't necessarily have to go back to stock size. Tire weight (unsprung weight and rotating mass) is a big deal too, there are slightly larger than stock (~1" taller, equal width) p metric/standard load all terrain tires that are still, well, a little larger than stock with a much more aggressive tread and look, but probably 10-15 lbs (at least) lighter per tire than what you have on there now (because they aren't E load range LT as yours probably are)

3.73 gears. Use Ford gears, not aftermarket.
