Goodbye 35’s, hello torque
I’ve tinkered with my truck more than most. About 3 months after I bought it, I went ahead with a 7” lift and 35’s. Well I wasn’t too pleased with my 3.31 gearing after the lift and tires so went ahead and re geared to 3.73. Now it’s come full circle, I removed the lift and I’m going back down to 275/65r18’s .. looking forward to the drive with the 3.73 gears. My only concern is that the New tires ride smoothly. Will report back when its done

I am very interested in the regearing part! How did you go about it? What was the cost for it? Did you have any issues with doing it? I have an 18 5.0 with 3.55 and 34s just on a level and the power really sucks compared to stock. Thinking of 3.73 but no idea where to start.

Damn, I couldn't imagine a 7" lift and 35's with 3.31 gears. I have just a 2" level and 35's with 3.31's... sometimes I wish I had just left it stock. But I've had 35's for over 2.5 years now, and I'm pretty sure I'd hate it if I went back to stock tires haha. My only real complaint is my truck downshifting to 5th on the highway with a slight hill or headwind. That gets annoying. There's still plenty of power for how I drive though.

I've re-geared two trucks. It's expensive, around 1200-1500 for the gears and master rebuild kit and then expect to spend another $1000-$1500 in labor. Another $250 for REM (gears that have been de-burred/polish which eliminates the break in process) if you want, or for another gear oil change after break in.

Edited to add...and find someone GOOD to do the work. I've had probably 10 rear ends done and only two or so were spot on. Others all had vibration and noise. I'd have to really hate my stock gearing to risk doing a 4x4 truck.

If you stick with Yukon or Nitro (which I recommend) it would be around $325 per axle for 4.11's. Add in another $650 for two master rebuild kits and then 12-14hrs labor plus gear oil, it adds up quick.

I have only re-geared multiple rear drive cars...never a truck, but the extra cost comes from needing the master rebuild kits and gear lube. It's every bit of $1,100 or so to do the rear end. Plan on a bit over double that when you add the front because the front is harder to access. Looking at my truck, I'm pretty sure you'd have to remove the front housing entirely from the truck to do the change. There is not near enough clearance with it in place.

Hey all, super new to all of this stuff. I purchased a 2016 F150 3.5 and considering what I want to do in terms of lift. I really like the look of a 6" lift, but I keep seeming people complain about gearing and how sluggish it feels. is that just something I have to expect if I go for a 6" lift? I don't know what my gearing is or how to find it. How would I look into all that?
