Default Lets talk tires... for what's probably the millionth time

Last night I was looking at one of the megathreads about trucks w/ leveling kits and tires. Pics of the KO2 and leveling kit looked great. I get all the time for my truck having stock everything and the idea of a leveling kit + new tires has been growing on me.

So lets talk - I currently have the Goodyear Wrangler 20" and have had no problems with them. I'm not a tire expert... as long as I don't wobble going down the highway I'm happy. Only thing that's keeping me hesitant is that I had lifted and put some Toyo's on my old Jeep Wrangler and the ride was terrible. Looked awesome but could barely keep up in interstate traffic and was pushing 4000RPM to stay at 80. Plus the VERY audible noise the tires would make and wobble... people would tell me I was driving a death trap.

KO2 owners - what's your thoughts on the tire? If you had the Wrangler tires, would you say they're better or the same? Is there any noise when driving at higher speeds? or wobble?

And for those with leveling kits - only thing I'm concerned about is if I'm hauling a trailer and how a leveling kit would effect the truck's stance for something like that.

Basically I want something that will make my truck not look like a granddad drives it, but will also not take away from the smooth ride it is right now.

Thanks

note i have a 14 but will chime in. i am on my second set of the bfg ko. i think they suck. first set was replaced due to a slash in the tread on both passenger side tires. happened when i parked in a dirt parking lot. no clue what did it. second set i am replacing tomorrow cause the front is cracking bad by the rim. i have no complaint about the ride. noise is not noticeable with the windows up or past 20mph. traction is good dry or wet in so cal. i am going back to hancook tires on my truck. dynapro atm. i have used hancook for over a decade and never had an issue with them. never had the wobble with a proper balance on either tire. had it on my old truck but that was cause the rims got tired after 220k miles or so

as for the level i only did a 2" in the front. my rear is still 2" higher. since i have super springs on a heavy duty, i don't get sag in the back till i start getting close to my payload.

another option for you that i didn't have is the ride height adjustable bilstein 5100. you can get 2" in the front and leave the rear the same. throw on some super springs and never worry about sag if you aren't overloaded.

You're willing to drop how much cash because someone else is bashing your truck? Youll never meet every criteria, so might as well spend it on whatever makes you the happiest.

Your going to run into things that weren't problems before. The truck is designed from factory towing, hauling, being bad ***, etc.. Unless you feel the need to do aftermarket work, dont do it to please the rest.

Not necessarily because people bash my truck. Seeing these setups has grown on me a bit. I'm giving it some thought because the last time I did aftermarket work on my Jeep Wrangler the thing turned into a POS. There's a reason why they have the nickname of Just Every Essential Part!

I know the rides gonna change a bit, but I'm looking to see how much it will. I don't want to deal with a constant steering wheel wobble and having to fight the truck to keep it going straight. But if it doesn't change the ride much I'd be willing to do some work to it to make it look a little more mean

biggest thing i read about when installing the lift was to disconnect the battery. something about the epas unit. made sure my shop did the battery disconnect. and no issues with the 2" spacers.

also i understand looking through here and getting ideals. there are some sweet trucks around here. but each one is different and personalized.

Agreed on the idea that you shouldnt feel like you need to get something because other people dont like your truck-other people also dont have to pay for your truck or live with your truck either.

With that said, I have been happy with my KO2's. No wobble, minimal (and I do mean minimal) noise increase from the Wrangler Adventure LT tires that came on the truck. Heres a pic of what they look like on my stock height truck-

Go for it. I only did a level and 257/70/18 ko2's on my stock wheels. Made the truck look 100 times better.

Not trying to hijack - I think my questions are related....

I'm also looking at the KO2s, most likely by the end of the year. People that have the KO2s, how well do they wear? I do roughly 30k miles/yr on average, most of that highway. Don't go off-road too much, but I also don't let ends of pavment stop me from my travels. I'm interested in these for the look, as well as snow traction in winter. Not particularly interested in dealing with a second set of snow tires.

I would say the KO2 sounds like the perfect tire for you. Your situation mirrors mine exactly. They look good, snow rated, wear well, quiet as stock.

I have 35" KO2's with a 2" level, LOVE it! Drove my stock truck for 6k miles (I have no idea how I made it that long), and now I have 11k miles on this set up. The ride firmed up a bit, but it's still very smooth. Just keep your PSI around 40, rotate the tires every oil change, and you'll be ok.
