Default Getting a dealer below invoice price

I see all these posts about getting a truck below invoice. I live north of Pittsburgh and all the dealers refuse to sell anything below invoice. They refuse to acknowledge additional dealer rebates or give up anything on their holdback.

Find the largest volume dealer an hour around you and shop there.

Try going on cars.com to find the model/trim/features you want within a radius you're willing to travel. You'd be surprised at the range of prices out there for similarly equipped trucks.

True Story: I live in NH and was 100% ready to buy a '17 XL STX SC from Northgate Ford in Cincinnati. They were down to $35,9xx. I decided it was too much of a hassle to get the truck back here so I visited my local dealer and they matched the price without much fuss.

I ended up ordering one to get exactly what I wanted:

2017 F150 2.7 XL Supercrew 4x4
Magnetic / Black Sport Cloth
STX / XL Sport Appearance Packages
Trailer Tow Package
101A
3.55 locking rear
Running boards
Spray in liner
Vinyl floors
Solid rear window (no slider)

I ordered one week ago so I have some waiting to do.

pburgh -

I'm thinking I may end up ordering myself in the near future. How many weeks did they estimate it would be before you can take delivery? I would rather wait and get what I want but was just curious.

Usually on an order truck the best I can get is Invoice + Ford's published rebates + brochure rebate.

The dealer has no way of knowing what factory to dealer incentives will be in effect at delivery so can't really negotiate on those.

The way I understand hold back is it's held until the end of the sales period and then the interest charges on his inventory is accessed as well as the dealers contribution to advertising. They receive the funds if any leftover. Again hard to negotiate on funds you may not receive.

Their are a couple of local dealers here that are debt free.
They don't have to worry about floorplan interest coming out of their holdback because they didn't finance their inventory. They still won't really get into hold back unless you buy something they are having trouble moving. They have to cover opportunity cost on their money.

Has anyone made an Excel spreadsheet that would help quickly calculate the invoice price/holdback/likely sale price for a vehicle?

Its all about location. You're in Pittsburgh and it's the middle of winter...not very conducive to getting a deal on a pickup truck now go to somewhere its warm and trucks dont sell well....its completely different. I'm in the same boat here in Michigan. Plus they have guaranteed sales walking in the door constantly because of all the auto workers here. Im not getting any deals....
