gen1 vs gen2 3.5eb feedback
Hello,
I tried searching but I must not know the correct terms. Are there any threads with owner feedback about the gen2 3.5eb? I am interested in a 2017+ 3.5 Ecoboost.
I really like the idea of the port fuel injection to not have to deal with cleaning intake valve buildup. However I have also not seen any threads about intake valve caking for the gen1 3.5eb, but VW and many others have a lot of problems with that at higher mileage. Also better mileage when it can switch to the port injectors and disable the HPFP, slightly more power, more responsive turbos, etc.
I am interested in the new gen2 engine, but would like to hear other's opinions and if there have been any reliability issues.

There's been lots of talk about the gen 1 3.5EB having carbon buildup issues, but there hasn't been a rash of people talking about actual issues.
I had a 2016 with the gen 1 3.5EB, liked it. I now have a 2018 with the gen 2, and I love it. Combined with the 10-speed (in sport mode especially), it's a killer combo.

Not too many will agree with me but I liked my 15 3.5 with 6 speed much more than the 18 3.5 10 speed and I drove both in january. 5 speed felt way better.

I own both the 2015 5.0 6sp and 2018 3.5EB 10sp, and st my company have a 2016 3.5EB 6sp.
out of that group my 2018 Gen2 3.5EB 10sp is far superior in overall drivability.... the added torque with the 10sp is a 200% improvement overall. It's a great combination that shifts smooth and shifts quick.... rifles through upshifts under hard acceleration .... acts quick on immediate kick downs .... its overall very seamless...
in comparison it makes my 2015 and the 2016 feel like a dog....and the 6 speed relatively sloppy and slow to respond

It sounds like the new 10 speed makes a bigger difference than the new engine. Great feedback!

The gen 2 3.5EB also doesn't seem to fall over dead nearly as bad in the high RPM ranges as the gen 1 did, which makes a substantial difference.

we had a 18 scab with the 2.7 which got totaled Christmas evening 2018. 2-Jan-19, we found a 18 screw, 3.5L and I don't know if I would go back to the 2.7 again. Both were 3:55 geared, 4x4s The 2.7 was just getting broken in at 9733 miles. Personally I wouldn't judge the 10 speed trans until it gets 10,000 miles on it. Just broke 2000 miles on my new 18..... and love it. The extra torque is great but miss the mpg of the 2.7l
