Gears: G2 vs Yukon
#31
Well, I've been going back and forth with my local shop, and fortunately they are willing to come down quite a bit off of the original price for the Yukon install. There was another shop in town willing to do the install for $1500, so they are matching that. (My Ford dealer quoted me the same amount for the install). Also, several months ago, I had a situation where my ABS lines were damaged. More than likely, it was due to the placement after the lift. I paid $400 to get that fixed at the dealership. The shop said they would discount my parts by that much, since it was their fault. So... $1500 install and $1200 parts (yukons front and rear and master install kits). I can live with that. I plan on putting it in the shop Monday morning. I'll let you guys know my thoughts afterwards...

Got my Yukon gears (4.11 front and rear) installed, and I am a fan!! Wow. These things have made a world of difference for my truck. No noise. I've gotten my power back. It feels so much stronger. The shift points are right on. I'm no longer downshifting at every little hill. I can actually accelerate in 6th without it downshifting every time. It shifts so much smoother, and I can actually tell that I have gained some gas mileage. I don't know for sure how much yet, but it is obvious that I have... initial thoughts are around a mile per gallon.
This was an expensive mod; however, after the lift and adding bigger tires, this was definitely worth every penny to me. I am one happy camper. I feel like I got my truck back.
