FX4 Suspension vs Regular Suspension
#22
Personally, I wouldn't give up the E-Locker which is available as a stand-alone option, but is not that much cheaper than the FX4 package. The truck I wanted had it, and was non FX4, so that's what I went with. I'll add my own aftermarket skid plates, suspension changes and hill descent control is as easy as an $8 switch and FORSCAN.

I just picked up my XLT with FX4 yesterday. The post above covers it, but a difference that can be seen (other than the decal) is the hill decent button on the dash above the radio.
Also, I have an "off road" option in the driver center that shows the angle of the truck at different axis and power distribution to each wheel, but I'm not sure if that's standard or not because I've never had a non-FX4 model.

FX4 Springs are the same as standard springs.
My truck has the 5560-A Spring just like every other 6500 GVWR.
Front Springs vary depending on curb weight of the truck.
I find the extra damping of the FX4 R. Shocks eliminate the rear hop from shocks being unable to control the spring. I find the front FX4 Struts to still be to soft.
I discovered one other thing on the $770 USD FX4 Package.
Select FX4 on Online Configurator (Which usually requires you select LT Tires. Ford really needs to fix that tool) and it will let you select a gear ratio one step numerically higher without charge.
I confirmed by checking window stickers. FX4 2.7EB 3.73 and FX4 5.0 3.55 and both showed no charge.

Now that I look at the pictures I posted I notice that these two rear shocks actually have the same part number.
When I check this parts site, it only shows different part #'s for the payload package when looking at front shocks.

I'm starting to wonder if the ride difference I noticed was all in my head. I've been noticing lately that even though I had them swap my shocks with a sport model without fx4 that it's still fairly stiff.
I'm going to check the front part numbers today and compare them to the truck they swapped mine with.
Edit - This site shows a different part # for the offroad package for front only, my guess is that they use different part numbers for the front shocks only with the fx4 package, and use the sport tuned shocks for the rear.

The stock shocks are garbage. FX4 or non FX4.
I have a FX4 and had rear end hop and kick out while turning and hitting a bump.
Removed the stock FX4 shock and put in Fox 2.0 shocks. Rear end hop gone. Ride is noticeably stiffer with the Fox 2.0 shocks on but way more stable.
My 6 year old daughter could compress the stock FX4 shocks no problem and they took a while to rebound.
I had a very hard time compressing the Fox 2.0s.

The suspension is pretty much the same. The FX4 rides a little rougher than the standard 4x4 does. The main thing is that the FX4 package gets rid of the chrome and adds skid plates. The "skid plates" aren't terribly impressive either so don't feel like your missing anything with a regular 4x4. I went for the FX4 because I hate chrome.
