Have a 17 Lariat, 5.0 engine and have been thinking about installing a Fumoto oil drain valve to make oil changes easier and less mess. Has anyone had this valve installed and are there any issues that I should be aware of?

Depends on where you drive. I had one on my latest car-and during a snow storm, the snow was high enough and packed densely enough on the road, that it pushed the valve open. Luckily I stopped nearby to check and saw what was happening. Needless to say, I removed it and threw it away!

I have used them for quite a few years without issue. They now make a little plastic clip to lock the valve lever in place, but I have used a zip tie for this since I have been using the Fumoto valves. They are much stronger than the plastic clips. My main concern was for off road driving, where sticks and branches could potentially trip the lever. It would not be easy for it to be accidentally tripped but I figure better safe than sorry.

I have a skid plate or cover thing that protects the valve. I suppose something could get in there with snow or something but I've never had a problem. Serious offroaders might have different experience obviously

I have one on my Roush F-150SC but I also have the locking plastic clip and a full skid plate package to protect it. No issues and no leaks.

Over 300 posts on Fumoto valves. I have one, works great. Hook on a piece of hose, put the end in my oil recycling jug, open valve, remove oil fill cap, walk away for 1/2 hour.

I am shocked that snow could of pushed the spring loaded lever up enough to allow the lever to be turned.. been using this valve for 20 years and never had a problem.. without a safety clip. Not calling you a liar.. it must of been a one in a million event.

The valve is a solution to a problem that never existed in the first place.

If you like hot oil cascading over your hand as you hold the plug in your hand, or shooting out past your oil pan, or as the stream weakens missing the front of the oil pan, or pouring the pan into a jug for recycling - yes, you're right, no problem existed in the first place.

Disagree, especially if you don't change your own oil. Stripped oil pans are a real issue, and a Fumoto basically eliminates this. I buy the short nipple Fumoto and attach a hose to run the oil directly into the hole in my drain pan. Easy cleanup, and never any oil on the floor. I also do not have to remove the cheap fiberboard "protector" plate to change my oil. Different perspectives, different viewpoints.
