Fox 2.5 Squeak/Creak Noise, HELP!!
#11
I agree that the disassembled and rebuilt part sounds kinda sketchy. I'm running the same set up on my truck. You don't have to rebuild them to change the ride height. You just crank on them with the spanner wrench because fox has the coilovers tuned to run anywhere up to about that 2.5" lift without adjustment. It's possible the shop could of screwed them up when they rebuilt them or didn't set oil or nitrogen levels quite to spec. The shocks are good for 2.5 inches of lift so your current ride height should be just fine. I would call and talk to either your shop, another shop, or fox and tell them the problem. It also takes about a 1000 miles for the coil overs to break in so your ride quality will improve a lot after that.

They ride much better than stock, you don't really hear them driving but that is probably because of wind noise. I noticed there is a slight vibration I can feel in my left foot on the floor boards at higher speeds seeming to be coming from the front left wheel which is probably due to the shocks and I noticed this after the install. I would compare the ride as more firm but more stable and predictable. You still feel the bumps its just not as pronounced as the stock shocks.
Any ideas on how to properly align the shock body in relation to the spring?

Sounds like an upper or lower control arm bushing making the noise. Also if Fox said don't go over 2" I would probably stick to that but I'm sure it wont hurt anything to go over just stiffens the ride. I bet they over tightened the upper control arm bolts or something.
Get your friend to bounce the truck and start spraying WD-40 on the listed parts below and see where the noise starts to go away. Installing coilovers is super easy. you can pop them out in as little as 10 minutes. It sounds like rubber on metal to me that does not sound like a metal on metal.
Things that are moving-
1. Upper control arm - Bushings
2. lower control arm - Bushings
3. shock mount in lower control arm
4. spring / coilover

I already tried the WD40 part right when I first started noticing it and it didn't do anything to help reduce the noise. You feel most of the vibration on the coil spring itself vs. the Upper arm so I think that is from the shock body rubbing on the coil. What I do know however is this sure pisses me off I know that

Also clarified with the installer that the shocks were adjusted 2 3/8" higher than stock. I wonder if I backed them off to just 2" which is what Fox lists on their website if that would fix the problem. Problem is I don't have a spring compressor to make any of these adjustments. I am going to call fox tonight after work to see what they say.

Just got off the phone from the dealer that installed it and I clarified the disassembly part. He didn't disassemble the shock, what he meant by disassemble was he took it off the truck a few times to adjust it to the right height and had to compress the spring to be able to do so. I guess you can't adjust the shocks directly on the truck.

After watching the videos, if that was my truck I would be pissed. Go back to the shop that installed it and demand it be fixed. As a side note post the name of the shop here so none of us will use them. Letting a truck leave like that shows pitiful quality control. Just my 2 cents.
