I absolutely wanted the 10 speed..but would have to waited still longer. I got a killer deal on a 2016 from my beloved 2011 3.5, one of the first in Texas. I would have to wait for the 2.7 to get one and then in 2018 comes the facelift, so I will get the 2.7/10 speed in 2018. My 2016 2.7 gets 28mpg without even trying yet. I am sure when its broke in and loosened up it will get 30mpg@60-65mph. I see more fuel economy out of the 10 speed..triple OD!!! A couple other aero mods and I will be in the mid 30s...I take it!!!
The 10 speed is going to be good..GM and Ford didn't spend all that research money to walk away empty handed...The convertor itself is a work of art.

You bitch and moan because the government wants these trucks to do better on fuel. Man we are living in a time when technology developed right now replaces what was made 15 minutes ago. There's no reason why we as a consumer shouldn't be asking for the very best. I for one enjoy driving my truck and will never give it up. But you know what I enjoy even more? Clean air and water ! Oh and a environment that hasn't been destroyed because thick headed people refuse to adapt better methods that make everyone's life better. It shouldn't be a government party policy, it should be everyone's policy. The cars made today are far more safer than the product of yesteryear.

Vehicles will become much more costly, lighter weight and less safe if this foolish standard is allowed to continue.

Ford had to stay in the game (game has changed now) to keep selling high margin trucks, so the 10sp happened. The 10sp might add 1mpg at best?

We have massive domestic petroleum reserves and more is discovered everyday.

Those that hate fossil fuels can walk, bike, live in cave,or maybe drive a tesla/volt to feel good about themselves.

Actually I complain because the idiots in Congress have ZERO knowledge of the engineering required when they come up with mandates like 54 MPG out of a truck. They care even less what the impact is on people working, people buying, etc. because their income levels insulate them from the reality that hits most of the rest of America when they make these mandates.

Remember when Japanese small cars hit America in the early 70's ? They got way better gas mileage and were put together better overall than the Big 3 offerings. Guess what ? The Big 3 had to COMPETE to earn business and, as a result of the competition, we started seeing higher mileage, better quality domestic cars and trucks as a result.

I agree that vehicles today are safer than ever. Unsure what that has to do with CAFE standards but whatever floats your boat.

Government has its fingers in too many places nowadays. Don't tell me it's about clean air and such and how it is about saving lives, etc. If they REALLY wanted to save lives and reduce pollution, they would address cigarette smoking - the #1 preventable cause of death in the USA and a HUGE source of pollution.

Thank goodness California has finally started cracking down on bovine flatulence.

In response to:

"I agree that vehicles today are safer than ever. Unsure what that has to do with CAFE standards but whatever floats your boat."

Actually you tied the safety factor and fuel economy together in your post.

"Vehicles will become much more costly, lighter weight and less safe if this foolish standard is allowed to continue"

I copied that from your post. I still don't see your point on why we shouldn't be asking for the best mpg possible. For what we spend on these things it should be part of the package. I agree with you that the government has their hands on too many things. But do you really believe these companies will do the right things on their own? I don't. The government has gone after the cigarette companies. That's why you don't see their advertisement on tv and print adds and a box of smokes will set you back 6-10 bucks depending on tax. But if they outlawed cigarettes you'd be the same guy bitching and moaning about them treading on your rights.

Now only if we could stay on topic and avoid devolving this thread into a bickering match. Just walk away, ignore it and leave it.

For me I would like to know what is going on with the new 3.5EB with 10spd as I am planning to purchase one in the near future. I hate buying something and find out that there are flaws.

either way, whatever the delay was appears to have been resolved and I hope we start seeing some real world reviews of the new engine and transmission soon.

Training courses are now available for dealership employees on the subject of the new 10R80 and it sure doesn't look like there any delays that we can tell.

As with anything in it's first year or two of production, there are going to be updates and revisions to improve the design and fix issues over the next few years, hopefully nothing major.
